Ute Valley

Like a training grounds. Little uphill, little downhill -- varied terrain. Parts that are rocky a la Moab and parts that are single track dirt. Some scree here and there. Overall a nice "urban" ride where you can practice some stuff. Not as technical as Palmer Park, but some intermediate areas.

Summary:
Pure fun. The climbs aren't too hard, and everything is rideable, but it's all just challenging enough to be alot of fun. I'm not sure if it's official, but the trail across from the southern(?) end, through the disc golf area is fun singletrack over lots of rocks. As others have noted, you have to do laps to get distance, but I just got back from a 2.5 hour ride there without repeating many sections.

Recommended Route:
Just explore the park. I usually go southeast out of the parking lot, up the climb behind the school, down the steep hill, left @ the fork. From there to the road, it's mostly downhill over lots of slickrock and some roots (very fun). If you want to go thru the disc golf course, take a left on the road, right @ the stop sign, and it's just up the road on the right. That trail is just out and back for a few miles. After that, I improvise. I usually go down into the valley and climb up the other side of the park. The rugged doubletrack down towards the little bridge is a blast. Again, just explore.

Palmer Park

Summary:
I have ridden this trail two weekends, in a row, and am still very impressed. Had a short ride last weekend, due to snow, but quickly found a quick loop that had some decent downhill and not that hard of climbs. Today we were able to explore and found three or four great section of downhill with some tech stuff and rode back up through the valley to come back over the mountain, to a great downhill prior to returning to the parking lot. Fun to explore, nice wide trails, and some sandy areas. Very comparable to Palmer.

Recommended Route:
Explore the different trails, make sure to remain off the hiking only trails. There is a section of the center heading west that the sign has been removed and the fence is down, but stay off this, it is not a trail anymore. Best route for us is to head south east out of parking lot toward the highschool, after accending the big hill remain on main trail which breaks right and down a short section of tech stuff, then across the valley, across the wood bridge, and head up the other side, short climb, break left at the four way section in trail, follow that up continued slow climb, rewarded by nice swooping downhill with some more tech mini drops, then drops back into the valley, head northwest to single track back to where you first dropped in valley, cut right, back tracking for short but challenging climb, almost at top, cut right on simi double track, follow that drops quickly, and short climb rewarded by another nice drop of tech section, cut right at split halfway down, and again right a little further down, on single track which rides the side of the ridge for a short while and then nice little drop section, back to single track heading west up the valley. Finish day off wit

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Finish day off, coming back to 1st cross section follow that left to four way go past this time just a little and take single on right. takes you all way up to top of ridge at dirt road come back right, and will be rewarded by nice drop into the valley heading toward the parking lot. 1-2 hour ride. can add many options. comparable to palmer.

Summary:
Some pretty sweet sections are at Ute. Everything can be ridden without getting off of your bike. If you are a beginner, then stay away from the northshore section. The northshore stuff is all torn up, but the trail where it used to be is still sweet. The downhill sections, although short, are fun and the ascents are challenging and provide a decent workout. If you ride 3-4 loops, you'll be feelin the burn.

Recommended Route:
Just explore.... But make sure you check out the 8ft drop in the southern part of the park at the top of the dirt road.

Summary:
I live right by Ute Valley Park, and this trail is my morning / early evening workout. The trail has a little bit of everything. Not too difficult and you can easily do the outer loop in 30-60 minutes (2-4 loops is a great workout). Best time is early in the morning or just prior to sunset when traffic is at a minimum. There are a lot of hikers and dogs, but everyone has been very friendly. Ute Valley Park has become my favorite place to push myself.
Ther are lots of other trails in the C Springs that are more challenging, but this is a great place for a quick and exciting ride.

Recommended Route:
Start at the Vindicator Parking lot (usually full on Weekends though so get there early) and proceed counterclockwise / clockwise(try both) I also recommend just exploring the park, but as mentioned below stay off the "hiking only" trails.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Buckhorn to Captain Jacks, the chutes and Palmer Park.

Summary:
Overall a good place for a lunchtime or after work ride. There are a couple spots that are not beginner friendly, but overall I wouldn't think they should discourage anyone from riding here.
One update, watch out for the sand on the downhill part in the southwest corner (coming down from the fire road) it has gotter somewhat sandy and there is an erosion rut in the center, some parts or pretty V like, adn there are a few sand traps. Other than that it is a fun place for a ride, and you can probably ride 30-60 minutes (Depending on speed/ability) without having to start repeating alot.
Oh yeah, as previous reviewer said, STAY OFF THE HIKING ONLY TRAIL. I run/hike here as well and judging by the tracks in the much many ignore this. Also try to stay on the trail, several areas here have gone from singletrack to quadrupale track. Oh yeah, and clean up after your dog. I don't care about dogs off the leash, but leaving dog do in the middle of the trail is just plain rude.

Recommended Route:
I prefer doing the outer loop going counter clockwise. Gives a nice variety, though you could do it the other way but there are a couple spots with drops that might be tough to get up. This takes you over most of the good trails.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The New Sante Fe Trail is fun for just riding, its basically just gravel, but it is good for getting some mileage in. Access from the woodemn/corporate center drive lots.
