Lake Fayetteville

Average Rating:    (3.58 of 5)

Starts out with a few miles of bone rattling single track that seems to last forever. Ends up in some cool downhills and tuff climbs.

Summary:
I both ride and run this trail. As a rider, I'm fairly pleased with the new routes that have been cut. As a runner though, I'm unhappy with the high-handed attitude taken in felling trees and obstructing former running paths. Riding the trail is still enjoyable and somewhat challenging. Running is now limited more to the paved sections, which is hard on my knees and feet. Former straight unpaved areas which were pleasurable to run have been destroyed by the Ozark Off-road Cycling team's trail building.

Recommended Route:
Running counter-clockwise, start accross the dam. Go through Veteran's Park and take the unpaved trail as far as the Botanical Gardens. After that, you can continue only on pavement unless you want to zig-zag along the trail intended for cycling. It isn't as ejoyable as it was before the Ozark Off-road trail builders destroyed major parts of the running trails.

Is this before they finished the 'new' mtbr trail all the way around?

Summary:
This is still a good trail. It once was much, much better. It used to be one of the crown jewels of Fayetteville, but has since become overused and undermaintained. If the City of Fayetteville put even 10% of the effort and management into singletrack trails that they put into paved trails, this trail could be great again. I ride this trail a lot, and I understand why it gets ratings of 5...I also understand why it gets ratings of 1. Overall, it is a nice ride, but there are just too many areas that have not been well maintained and have washed out badly. It is sad to see this trail falling into the condition is in, because it was once really, really good. It is sad to see the day that Bentonville and Rogers have better singletrack than Fayetteville.

Recommended Route:
I always start at Veteran's Park and ride clockwise.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Devil's Den, Slaughter Pen Hollow, and Lake Leatherwood are all great trails. Hobbs is really good too.

Summary:
It was ok. Not the best. I'm from Texas and I'm comparing this to some awesome fun single track trails. There are a few technical spots and about a mile of good single track, but i was dissappointed in some of the boring flat, ROUGH areas! If you are riding a hardtail, this could be a bit rough.

Summary:
This is the best trail i have ridden yet. It has some huge downhill runs, and soem awesome climbs. I think this is no beginners trail. This trail is best for a full suspension or a downhill bike. But overall it is a wicked trail.

Summary:
If you're a beginner, Lake Fayetteville is the place to start. Even if you're a pro, it's a good place to work on your endurance or just go to "big ring it" all the way around to work on speed. I won't knock the trail just because I've had alot of fun out there. For more of a challenge, ride down to the dam and ride it back up. It's not as easy as it looks. My only gripe with Lake Fayetteville is the foot traffic. Be sure to make your presence known out there when flying through the many blind corners.

Recommended Route:
Start at the parking lot and ride the trail CLOCKWISE. It's the most fun!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Kessler's
Lake Wedington
