The Slaughter Pen Hollow Trail System

The Slaughter Pen Hollow Mountain Bike Trail System is scheduled to open April 21, 2007. The trail has become a reality thanks to Tom Walton and the Arkansas Trail Blazers. They hired The Grey Barn, LLC. to build the trail starting in January 2007. The trail was designed and constructed by two OORC members. Don West and Aaron Hanley. The completed trail includes around 5 miles of fast and flowing singletrack that blankets the mountainside between the north side of Bentonville and I-540. The trail has something for all level of riders, including beginners to experts. Expect to see a combination of singletrack, log rides, drops, jumps, log overs, and teeter totters. The trail construction was completed March 1. Trail signs and Kiosks should be up by the first week in April.
A freeride skills park has been added due to the efforts of OORC members Nathan Woodruff and Chris Crone. Freeriders can enjoy the table top jumps, bermed turns, ladder bridge drops, and wall ride.
Summary: Diverse, well maintained trails that are great fun if you don't mind all the rocks. These trails have a little bit of everything including a bmx park. Very well maintained. They throw in alot of wooden bridges along the single track. Just beware of the rocks, small rocks, loose rocks, wet slippery rocks. I ride a hard tail and I often find myslef wanting a full suspension when I'm on these trails.
Recommended Route: I wouldn't pay much attention to the difficulty ratings. I don't see much difference between the "most difficult" and the "least difficult" other than a few rock sections that non-experts will have to walk through. I'd recommend warming up on the flat sections that run along the creek and then head up the mountain. The trails are divided by the creek. I prefer the trails on the north side of the lake. They have more of the wood bridges and less rocks.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Leatherwood is about an hour away but offers more of a natural feel.

Summary: Awesome!!! This is some sweet singletrack. Great for riders of all levels. This is a stacked loop system, that has some challenging technical parts. The are actually 4 different rated trails at the original trail head that make to complete loops. The bottom two are easier than the top two trails. The newer section of trails is a blast as well, with some even more challenges.
Recommended Route: For the original section of trails counter-clockwise, for the newer section, don't know yet.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Devils den(has a little of everything)

Summary: A great place to blend all styles of riding. Warm up on the freeride section to hone in the handling skills. After a little freeride take a long climb to the top of the hill and blast down through some of the more thechincal stuff. Then when your ride is comming to an end and you are good and tired finish off on one of the mild XC style loops. When riding time is done and you think it cant get any better than this grab good beer from Macadoodles and call it a day. I have rode all over the country and this little slice of "fun as hell" is very hard to beat.
Recommended Route: From the main entrance: Go south and hit the freeride section. Then go southwest to the new all mountain area and ride CW (nice berms). Finally head east and finish up on Da-Bumbaclot.
Other recommended trails in the same area: SAC River trails, Springfield, MO

Summary: The new section of Slaughter Pen has been completed and ready to ride. It's located east of the current trail beside Northeast A street. I reccomend riding the orriginal section first to get warmed up before jumping on the new. Expect a more aggressive climbing and technical ride, combined with some sweet sweeping berm turns and free ride jumps.
Recommended Route: Counter clockwise for XC riders so you can take an aggresive line coming down on the berm sections. Free riders do it clockwise so you can take advantage of the log jumps and massive drop section.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Hobbs, Lake Leatherwood.
