Beutiful country side trail that goes part of the way up the second tallest peak in the state. You start the trail heading up this peak, not real steep but a little on the long side. All the trail is single track that has leg numbing climbs, technical and rocky descents. Fast, twistie tree hugging single track, a few jumps, some great overlooks and cool looking rock formations. Some places can be a little technical with drop offs and rocks. If your in the Ouachita Mountain area this trail is a must it's only about 30 minutes from the Womble trail.
From hwy. 71 in Mena take hwy. 88 north for about 2 miles. You will see a vistors center off to the right, turn into the parking lot and you are there.
Summary: Very nice trail. This is true singletrack, technical, and rocky. Lots of climbs followed by great downhills. Trail is well maintained by local riders and a strong volunteer base. There are a couple of highway crossings so watch for traffic. After you do the ride make sure and take a DRIVE up the mountain and check out the overlooks. You can see for miles. The annual "Revenge of of the Ridge" mountain bike race is a must do. It is a very well organized race and will challenge even the best riders.
Recommended Route: Does not matter, you have long, tough, climbs either direction followed by nice downhills.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Womble, Ouachita Trail, Crystal Springs-Charlton, and Cedar Glades.

Summary: Rode this trail 06/05/2004. It is a sweet little trail. Too bad it isn't longer. I understand that the area bike association built this trail and you can tell that mountian bikers built it. It is very well designed.
We rode all the loops there and got in between 7 and 8 miles.
The main loop starts out with a climb to the northwest to the top of the ridge and then there is a sweet descent back to the road. There are several other short loops south of the visitors center. They are mostly tight twisty trail through the trees. Don't miss riding these trails of you are passing through.
Recommended Route: Main loop, counter clockwise. The rest of the loops it doesn't matter, ride either direction.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Womble, Little Blakely

Summary: Who ever posted that this trail was done in 20 minutes evidently did not do it all. I consider myself a average rider racing in expert class and doing this trail took me about 40 minutes to do then again I wasn't hammering it. It is really a cool little trail I talked with one of the locals there and he pointed out to me on the map of the other trails that connect to this as well as the new trail they just added about 2 miles. He also said they were going to start looking at developing more trail going up the mountain and maybe connecting this trail with the Ouachita trail now that would be cool.
Recommended Route: Counter clockwise from the visitor center. Read your map and make sure you catch all the various loops. For a map on the new stuff you can go to www.mtbark.com
Other recommended trails in the same area: Womble, Ouachita, Little Missouri

Summary: Earthquake Ridge is well named for its ridge. It has one ascent, and one descent. This is a fun trail, but it is just as well aimed at the hiker as for the Mt. biker. It's rocks allow no room between their frequency for dodging them, which slows down the action on this trail's only down hill. Like almost anywhere, it's slippery when wet, but incredibly, the terrain is perfect for riding even after rain. I have to hand it to this trail for being the first to ever make me bust ass on the UP hill. It's a quick up, and an even quicker down....And all that quick adds up to like 20 minutes of riding. Don't drive all the way out here to ride without having planned on hitting other trails in the area, or you could be up for a disappointment. And if you are looking for extreme- give it up. There are no REAL jumps or neat-o shit to stunt, contrary to previous exagerations. There's just plenty of rockage to give you a flat. I would normally reccomend bringing a spare tube and pump, but odds are, by the time your tire goes flat, you'll already be back at your car. Earthquake gets a 4 in my book......but if the parks department ever adds another mountain to the trail or opens another loop- just pretend its a 5.
Recommended Route: Short enough to ride both ways but, counter clockwise is probably a little better.
Other recommended trails in the same area: The Brushy, Big Athens
