Boyle Park trails

There are a series of three trials in the middle of Arkansas that provide some great riding without forcing a person to leave the city. Loop One is a great beginners trail. It is almost all singletrack, with lots of twisting turns. For the beginner, taking things slow and easy will allow you to make it through the trail. For the more advanced rider, all you need to do is up your speed to get an adrenaline rush.
Loop Two is a bit further away. You can ride to this loop along a road (blech!) or cruise a hillside trail that slopes down towards the end. This second section of trail is perfect for the intermidiate who is looking to increase his leg strength and sprinting. the trail has lots of switchbacks and rolling hills to make you work.
The third loop is one I call the Granny Gear Loop. Lots of climbing (and I mean LOTS!). The trail is tight, steep, rocky and rooty. For advanced riders who like the terrain to challenge their conditioning as well as their handling skills, this one is a blast.
I-30 into Little Rock. Take the University Rd Exit and travel to the corner of University and Asher Ave. Follow Asher to the west (that is, make a left) until you come to Boyle Park Road. Parking can be found by any of the pavilions.
Summary: Boyle Park has some surprisingly nice sections of single track hidden out there. There are also some short super twisty sections which are great for harnessing your cornering capabilities. Decent place to ride, but there are much better places in town (Camp Robinson, Burns Park, & Alsopp Park)
Other recommended trails in the same area: Camp Robinson, Burns Park, Alsopp Park

Summary: Easy to get to. As tough aerobically as you want to make it. Long, mostly flat runs through the trees. One short loop with long uphill sections. A couple of really good climbs.

Summary: These trails are not my favorite, but for a mountain bike ride right in the middle of the city, they're not bad at all. I usually ride Boyle in the evenings when I don't have enough time to do a long ride elsewhere. The trails are sort of spread out through the park, so you have to know how to connect between the different sections to put a decent ride together. The largest section is basically a loop that can be ridden fast, and isn't technical. On the other side of the road you can connect to a section that is about a mile long and is quite technical. There are short, steep climbs, with lots of rocks and roots, and it's pretty challenging to ride it in either direction. There's also a nice long downhill section that connects to a newer loop near 36th St. This loop isn't technical, but it's laid out well with a good mix of gentle climbs and short downhill sections. All in all, I think Boyle Park has some nice singletrack if you're looking for a place to go for a quick ride. One other thing that is nice about these trails is that they were built by mountain bikers for mountain bikers, and they make very good use of a limited area.
Recommended Route: Ride some on the easier trails and then go across the road and ride the more technical trails and then on down to a newer loop that is near 36th St. Then, reverse course and ride it again the other way.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Camp Robinson has by far the best network of mountain bike trails in central Arkansas. Nothing else is even close.

Summary: Slow, narrow, some rocks and roots. Couple of fair climbs. Nothing technical.
Recommended Route: It's all the same, tight, low speed stuff. Mainly beginner trails.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Camp Robinson C.A.R.P. or nasty fish trails are better.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: The park is not heavily used and the trails are not routinely maintained. Much of the trail network is paved with span foot bridges crisscrossing the creek. The trail network is a mix of short intersecting trails that really does not give you much opportunity to stretchout. No hills or technical terrain that I have found, just easy casual riding.
Recommended Route: All trails are fairly easy and are great for beginners and those just seeking a bit of fresh air and exercise.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Camp Robinson
