Marsh Station Trail to Sahuarta Road

Average Rating:    (2 of 5)

From the Gabe Zimmerman Trailhead, instead of heading north for the 3 bridges section up to Pistol Hill, head south out of the parking lot for 7 miles of great fun. This trail is smooth and easy, with two tunnels and some great scenery. You begin by skirting Davidson Canyon along a high exposed ridge, then head down to a tunnel underneath I-10 which we dubbed "The Chunnel." Head back up hill for a bit before you level out and cruise through open desert, crossing two direct roads along powerlines before crossing the Old Sonoita Highway. Then down hill again and a saunter through open desert, another tunnel under the new Sonoita highway, and then a quick romp down to the Sahuarita Road. You can continue south on the trail, but it is another 23 miles to the Greaterville Road and Box Canyon. We took photos at the trailhead here and then road the 7 miles back to the Gabe Zimmerman trailhead. Nice desert cruise with nothing too challenging or tricky. Do it with your mother!

This is a fine trail and quite fun. Two bridges that you go under and nice flowing trail. A lot like the 50-Year trail but no chutes.
