House Mountain

Average Rating:    (3.25 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 4

Begins as fast rolling singletrack, turns into hideous, short, steep, rocky, heart wrenching climb. Then through lava field with prickly pear growing right up to edge of singletrack. Downhill from there on two-track over some fork-blowing terrain. Take some tubes, some food, and some band-aids.

Summary:
All routes from the turkey creek turn off are fun but if you follow the House mountain "loop" strictly your in for a treat. Volumes of vertical as well as distance, but alas not a complete single track route. If you get distacted and head towards the school though pray for suspension.

Recommended Route:
Try your best to follow any directions, be them from Cosmic Ray or Bike and Bean.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Any slick rock in Sedona, or the Dry Lake Hill/Elden complex in Flagstaff

Summary:
would omit this ride entire from the guidebook. it's way too much riding (streets and fireroads) for 3/4 miles of singletrack. there is singletrack but not as much as cosmic ray's book suggests.
wouldn't waste my time w/ this one.

Recommended Route:
would not recommend

Summary:
There is some construction going on so it was very hard to find out where things were. If it wasn't for a couple of construction workers we would never have found it. We used cosmic rays trail guide and we still took some wrong turns. The two water tanks are actual green tanks- big steel things. Not little depressions like the other review.

Recommended Route:
same

This trail was uphill for about 16 miles like you wouldn't beleive. The downhill was fast and intense- only about 3-4 miles. If you do this trail allow plenty of time to get lost and bring lots of food and water.

Summary:
My friends and I combined this with The Broken Arrow/Submarine Rock loop for a 50 mile hell ride. We got somewhat lost though. Cosmic Ray's book describes "watertanks" as references of directions. They were actually dry depressions, not steel cylinders (whatever). The heinous climb through loose babyhead sized chunks of lava with prickly pear cactus on both sides was a suprise, I pulled it with almost no dabs. The descent was very fun. One of the Swiss guys I rode with had his Slime inner tube explode while I was tailing him at high speed. Bring tons of food and water and take a swim at buddah beach afterwards.

Recommended Route:
Same as above

Its Sedona.. EVERYTHING!!
