Desert Classic - Goat Trail

Average Rating:    (4 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 4

This is PRIMO Phoenix Desert single track with great whoopideedoos and nice technical parts, followed by a punishing road ride. Ride the trail from the parking lot to the Water Tower. This is about 5 miles. If your brave, forge on past the Water Tower though some great South Mountain desert trail. You will hit Telegraph pass after 15 miles? and then head south to Ray Road and 24th street. Break there at the Circle K to fill your tanks. Then go south to Pecos Road. This is great, straight road riding 8 miles back to 48 the Street. Head north here and survive the traffic and steady 8 degree ascent. Go back up the road the parking lot and your done. If you have energy to spare ride Mormon Loop twice (kidding).

Summary:
Also recommend no road, take the trial back. Plenty of options to avoid repeating the same trails out and back. Form the top of the goat trail, head back down the Helipad climb trail to Desert Classic. throw in the Warpaint loop or Secret trail or both. North East of the Water tank take the fast lower section back. Distance wise it is only aprx. 10 miles from the ramadas to Telegraph including the Goat Trail climb.

Recommended Route:
From Ramadas, Desert Classic to Water Tank. Just past Water Tank, take the Secret Trail (right turn unmarked) to lower Corona Loma, and back to Desert Classic. Keep on Desert Classic, climb the Goat Trail then head down the Helipad climb to Desert Classic. Throw in a loop on the War Paint Trails to the Water Tank. Take the Lower Trail and connect back to Desert Classic. Pop a Beer at the end.

Summary:
Any cranks are good cranks, but why ride the road at all? Just turn around and ride the trail back - maybe try one of the arteries that sprout off of the main trail.

Recommended Route:
Skip The Road

Summary:
I am not real keen on this trail. Kinda boring with lots of flat uneventful riding. As with any trail there is some good spots and like he said, lots of whoop dee doos. Not a lot of traffic, which is nice but as most will agree, if you are going to south mountain, stick with national trail. Great ride.

Recommended Route:
as told above

Other recommended trails in the same area:
National and mormon trails.

Summary:
I have ridden all over the US and this is one of my favorites.

Recommended Route:
I started at the trail head, went all the way to telegragh pass. Instead of turning around I hiked a bike over the pass and went down national trail on the other side of south mountain (awesome downhill).

Other recommended trails in the same area:
National
