Templeton/Cathedarl Rocks/Baldwin Tr. Loop
1 reviews
4 of 5
this loop consolidates Bell Rock trail with Tempelton Tr. around Cathedral Rocks , down Baldwin Trail and connects with Verde School Road to make an 11 mi. loop with a little something for everbody.
there may be some confusion as this is the same trail wich is described here as Budda Beach-Cathedral Rocks.
I simply add some more detail.
2 caveats....going down Bell Rocks Tr. you are close to HWY 179, so it is very noisy. and going down Verde School Road you will encounter alot of local traffic.
staring at TH in town of Oak Creek you go up +/- 2 mi. to on Bell Rock Trail to Templeton. beginer trail all the way. Look for trail marker at Templeton Junction where you cross under 179 and you also cross under another underpass where you find yourself on the main portion of Templteton.
this is intermediate trial that winds and swoops until you hit a slickrock apron that traverses the base of Cathedral Rock. THIS SECTION IS GREAT INTERMEDIATE FUN. about 4 mi.
you can turn off to the right towards paved road and back to 179 or you carry on to death defying switchback that leads you down to Oak Creek and Bhudda Beach. follow along creek 1 mi. to Baldwin Tr. junction. Baldwin is a tuff, tuff 1-1/2 mi with plenty of short hills and gullies to challenge both aerobically and technically.
you wind up on Verde Valley School road. turn left. 3 mi. back to TH on dirt and pavement.
Summary: great loop excepting traffic noise and local traffic. this is not a wilderness trip.
templeton is intermediate and can be ridden out and back. about 6-7 mi from Bell Rock Tr. the slickrock apron is fun, fun, fun. no playground a
(ala Moab) as you must follow a narrow strip, but still fun.
switchbacks at Cathedral Rock is world class badass, if ridden that is, but can you can easily hike-a-bike short death defying sections.
Baldwin was tuff, with enuff hills, gullys, scree, and ledges to wear you out as you power to Verde Valley Rd.
