Sandy Seep Trail
3 reviews
 2 of 5

This is more an advisory than a recommendation. I tried this one as I descended off of the Little Bear/ Lil Elden trails. A better option may have been to follow Lil Elden to Schultz Creek and loop back to "go." The seep was torture, especially on clear, 90 degree days. Treeless, wide gauge, very loose single track full of horse shit and deep sand, hence the name. To add to the fun, this is mountain lion habitat. I'd recommend this one to Rocky Chrysler, but noone else.

Ridden Trail:

Summary:
I agree that the majority of sandy seep is an old road. I remember riding motorcycles and 3-wheelers up it before access was restricted. The first mile sucks but the connector is fast with lots of rollers. A good morning ride should you ever find yourself on that side of the mountain.

Recommended Route:
Start at the Sandy seep trailhead, as you come around the west side of the 2 hills, a short connector trail cuts back towards town. Dumps into Fatman's loop and follow the highway back out of town to your car.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Flagstaff trails are already too congested. I doubt you need my help finding anything.

Summary:
yeah! another road! gosh, i love flagstaff... the only place in the country where you can ride a road EVERYWHERE but call it a trail and everyone (for mysterious reasons) will always agree with you. this is a great one: burnt to a crisp, no trees anywhere, blaring sun, and acres and acres of hourglass sand so fine you sink into it up to your ankles (because you're walking, you see). unrideable doesnt begin to describe sandy seep; it's unwalkable, unthinkable, unbelievable! sux, suxt, suketh to the max!

Recommended Route:
i mostly wanted wings. if i'd had my cellphone (my wife took it because she dropped hers in the toilet) i would probably called 911 or something and had search and rescue come get me.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
they are all the same: old roads going nowwhere the hardest way possible.

Summary:
This trail, if you've had a hard ride already, really exploits your fatigue. Its hot and loose and full of sand pits, short but draining uphills, brief downhills, and horse evidence. The two miles just drags. Bring sunblock.

Recommended Route:
Can be used as a connector back into town from the trails off of Mt Elden. Its not a great trail on its own.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Try going up Lil Elden trail and taking the famously furious romp down Shultz Creek.
