Summary: No one has commented on this area in a while. I have ridden here off and on since I moved here 5 years ago. There are now trail markers out there put in by the State Land Dept, and I think they have been out ther for about 18 months or so. Despite what other have posted here (a few years ago now) this place is a challenging as you choose to make it. You can go out for hours and sometimes not see anyone else. Other times, you will encounter dirt bikes, and I have never had a problem with them. Yield to them as you can see and hear them long before they know you are there.
If you have not been out here in a while, come check it out. This is the closest area to my house, but deep down I still like riding the loops at McDowell the best!
Recommended Route: Work your way out toward Cone/Slant/Granite Mountain. I believe they are in that order as you look to the NE from Pima/Dynamite (according to my map) You can avoid riding under the powerlines once you get to the second large tower, cut into to your left and follow the double track that heads north. Head toward the only hill in the immediate area (lots of granite boulders, etc) The trail goes both ways around this hill, I like going to the right personally. YOu can then connect with some single track, head toward the next hill which is really scared up (hard not to notice) This will put you on to trail 15, which has a few technical areas, lots of up and down and just a lot of fun overall. Hammer as hard as you can! From here, I just go by memory and work my way bewteen the 2nd/3rd mountains (Browns Ranch area) and then hook back to the South for rolling single track on the back side of Cone Mountain. I end up back on 15 most times and head it back to the truck. This loop is 12miles, but you can really go as long as you choose.
Other recommended trails in the same area: McDowell Loops, T100, SoMo

Summary: We rode here in the bitter winter of 2003/2004 and had fun. Lots of twisties up and down, no worries about getting lost because you can follow the powerlines back, lots of side trails to explore. Some sand washes, but rideable if you have any idea what you're doing.
I took some photos of the trails and surroundings:

Summary: This is a great fitness long, fast ride. A great trail if you train for racing. Not a very technical ride, however fun, twisting with great views and lots of beautiful desert flora everywhere. One great feature of this trail is that you can ride to it through using the bike lane on Pima road, a great way to warm up and cool off before and after the ride. This trail goes on forever so if you like the technical, slow grind, and you are the kind of rider that pedals for 15 and rests for 15 minutes, then this is not a good trail for you. If you like to go on and on for a few hours without stopping this is a great trail for you to ride. If you like South Mountain you probably will not like this trail. Its not slow, all rocky, ugly, overused, eroded, dirty, and it's not located in the slums, however if you like fast, long beautiful trails this is a great trail to try.
Recommended Route: Go everywhere, make your own route and if you get lost find the powerlines and follow them back to Dynamite road
Other recommended trails in the same area: McDowell Mountain Park, Pemberton Trail, Secret trail II located around...

Summary: Dynamite is really fun if you stay on the trails to the right side of the left powerline as you head north towards cone mountain. Hop off the fire road at the first op. There are some great technical whoops and switchbacks..fun rhythm, and fun diversions along the way. Climb some of the steep mounds for good drops on the other side..often worth hiking for. Beautiful scenery..and lots of places to bail out when it starts getting hot, then down hill to the car..or bus. Just park on the north shoulder of Dynamite on the east side of Pima, or drive over the berm on NE corner right where the powerline crosses Dynamite to get yer car off the road..trail's on the right and no need to pay.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Still enjoy McDowell Mt. Park loops and track. $5/day to park.

Summary: To put this review in to perspective I live on South Mountain.
I rode dynamite once. It is not the kind of riding I prefer. Smooth, lack of challenging climbs, sandy.
If this kind of ride is your thing or you are a beginnner then you are probably in a good place
Other recommended trails in the same area: National, Usery, Elden in Flag, Desert Classic to Beverly up National Down Mormon to Rigline to get your climb on!
