Summary:
Incredible. Lots of drops and jumps and loose stuff. good deal of puddles and streams. I left my hardtail at home and took my SC Blur XC on it. The technical uphills were great practice for difficult s-track climbs -- fun and challenging. I had to walk a good bit of it. The loose, steep downhill on 4405 was just amazing.

The ride is a nice workout. There were a few dirt bikers and ATV's out, but nothing too annoying. I saw a deer. I did it in August in the middle of the day, but it was cool enough. Bring lots of water! The Rincon mountains offer good views, too.

It's intermediate ... pushing advanced in some places. I'm new to mtb-ing, and I found it a struggle. But it was worth it.

I just biked the fire road 5.5 miles up the mountain. It's an easy, scenic climb. The monsoons tore up the road, and my civic would not have liked it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fantasy Island -- FAST on a hardtail ...

Summary:
Was I in Moab? This is a pretty nice path to Chiva Falls and is well worth the effort. There are a few tough spots but most can be cleaned in the middle chainring. I was trying to traverse over to the Rincon Mountains but came to a dead end on I think 4426 where it needlepoints on top of a hill up a very steep section. The snow birds have it down...Tucson in the winter is ideal.

Recommended Route:
After the ride to the Falls, I did what I guess is the Italian loop riding it clockwise which is probably recommended judging from some of the downhill. I took a few jaunts off the main trail to explore. Thanks to the Tuscon Bicycle guys for the rental (a nice Trek Fuel).

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Don't know.

Summary:
This review is for the Italian Loop portion (12 mile) of Chiva, and is it awesome! THe 4.7 mile UPHILL "warmup" is a burner, but totally worth it. Once you get to the trailhead, it is smooth (well actually, it's pretty rough :-)) sailing from there. Definitely take a map, until you ride it a few times. Once you get to the pit, you can head down to the falls, adding about 3 mor miles of uphill fun, or head back to the start. Careful though, it is easy to take a wrong turn and end up on the 4417 jeep trail (uphill hike a bike). All in all this loop is a good mix of cross country and downhill/freestyle. Take plenty of water and tools/parts. The trail can be done in 1-3 hours, but the views are so awesome that you may want to take 4.

Recommended Route:
Redington Road 4 miles after it turns into a dirt road to the first parking area (on right). From there head up Redington Road 4.7 miles to trailhead FR37. You will have a fun downhill ride on FR37, then take a sharp right at the tee of FR60 (posted as 4424). THen after going through the wash and up a little hill, hang a right at the next trail T (4426)Once you climb another nice hill, you will arrive at the pit (lots of ATV activity here) Make sure to stay on 4426, and avoid 4417 (unless you like pain!)Keep following this around for another 6 miles to the start. USE YOUR MAP!! A good site is http://www.cherba.com/atmb/chiva_italian_loop.htm

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fantasy Island (easy, but fun!)
Chiva Falls
Elephant Head

Summary:
I've wridden this trail since the early 90's and with all of the jeep and dirtbike traffic, it's getting very rugged and torn up. The up and back to the falls is still a fun ride, but tough. Attempted to do the 'upper loop' but must have taken the wrong route (On the way to the falls, I took a right before a cattle gate) and headed up an extremely difficult jeep trail that was a lot of 'hike a bike'. All in all, Chiva has always been one of my favorite trails in the Tucson area. I can see how it would be a primo destination for the 4x4 crowd, but unfortunately, it's tearing the trail up pretty severly.

Recommended Route:
Tanque Verde until it turns into dirt rd. Road is not car friendly from there on. Head about 5 miles until you find a parking lot on the right, just past a cattle corral. Parking lot is much smaller now and is boardered by a steel guard.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fantasy Island (easy). Mt Lemon (Crystal Springs, Aspen Draw (check to see if open)

Summary:
The trail starts as a maodrate downhill run from the parking area and from there you are in for a spiritual experiance. trails range from the mild to very technical and dangerous, Both ups and downs have these traits. This has to be one of the most beautiful trails in Arizona. Quite the adventure, I personally did the lower loop with my Tour guide/Bro The one The only STEELE MILLER!!!!!! Well hes not a professional tour guide but it is a dream of his, He took me out there and showed me the way and man what a ride. mostly all Jeep trails that are rain rutted and gnarly which is great if you ask meeeee. Every technically diverse climb becomes a technically diverse drop an the way back and vise verse so doing those 30 minute climbs will ultimately pay off. it is a breath taking experiance that no one should miss while in Tucson. If you live in or around Tucson and you havent ridden this trail yet.........................................................shame on you.
I give it 5 tyres and would give it more if they had em. A simple must ride, 2 broke ass thumbs up !!

Recommended Route:
As listed above

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fantasy Island, Mt Lemon Hell Ride, Chiricauah Mountain range!!!!(Anywhere in the Chiricauah's)
