Cook Canyon Loop Trails
2 reviews
 4.5 of 5

Fast hard-packed trail with some ups and downs but no serious climbs. See the city’s website for map. The northern network of trails are the Cook Canyon Loop Trails and the large loop to the south is the Monolith Garden Loop. The Camp Beal Loop Trail connects by going under the highway. A variety of different loops are possible. Staying in the Cook Canyon Trail area loops of 1-3 miles are possible. If you add the Monolith Garden Loop it will total about 6 miles. The maze of towering rock formations in this area must have reminded someone of the heads on Easter Island which are also named Monolith Garden.

Two possible trailheads both off of highway 93 just west of I 40. Metwell Drive is a half-mile from the interstate on the south side of the road. A mile farther also on the south side is another trailhead visible from the highway.

Summary:
Great scenic intermedate level trail. By far the most scenic trail in the area. Bring camera. 250' elev. change. Trail can become quite loose if it hasen't rained recently. Good trail for the advanced beginner to expert, as visibalty is good enough to ride fast, however everything out there will hurt if you crash into it.

Recommended Route:
Can start at any of the trail heads and ride any dir. Metwell TH is the best. I-40 exit 48, north 1/2 mi. Metwell TL, 150 yds bear R, Map boards at TH. Appx 8-9 total miles of trail on the west side of the road. ride to the east side for more trails.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
connects to Camp Beale loop and then the other trails in the area. See map board, it also has elevation profiles for the trails.

Summary:
Amazing trail! Has it all: fun twisty singletrack, small berms and jumps, 2-3' drops in places, climbs that make you appreciate the downhills, and downhills that keep you focused. Watch out for the pointy plants, but enjoy the views, which are amazing. Awesome rock formations and incredible vistas make this ride one of the best the area offers. Never crowded, and friendly locals!

Recommended Route:
Any, they're all fun!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Badger Trail, Beale Loop, Beale-Badger point to point.
