Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Weekend Warrior Summary: I rode this trail once- about this time last year (Aug/Sept). I fugure it's time for another trek down this trail. This trail offers all the styles you might want for a 2-3 hours ride- starts on pavement, transitions to fireroads, then off to rocky single track trails that wind their way through the Santa Rita Valley. Besides the vistas, one of the highlights is a "neat" inactive mine that sends you back to yesteryear, to a day when this area flourished- if only briefly- pulling ore from the Earth. Take plenty of fluids and enery bars, as well as all the stuff you might need "if" something goes wrong. You are never far from civilization and you will come across plenty of ranches and cattle lazing on the road, but once off the fire roads, you are on your own. Good downhills, though some tend to be very steep and rocky, especially at the end. Stay away until the seasonal rains have dimminished- the area roads do flood rapidly. Recommended Route: I'll let you know once I've done it more than once. Other recommended trails in the same area: See this site for other trails in the area. For road bikes, I don't recommend riding the stretch of Hwy 82 between Sonoita and Hwy 90- this is a high speed road with little (if any) shoulder. I often see road roders on this stretch, ignorantly enjoying the area wine country, taking their lives foolishly in their hands because they aren't smart enough to do a simple risk assessment. These are not local riders, but usually, out of area visitors- dumb, dumb, dumb!
