Corona Loma

Rocky and loose. Looser than any other trail on South Mountain that I've been on(holbert, kiwanis, mormon, national). Lots of rocky switchbacks. All of this trail is ridable, but being so loose and with so many switchbacks, it ends up not being very fun IMO, especially considering the long ride out on Desert Classic.

Trail Directions
Get to Buena Vista parking lot on top of South Mountain. You can get here by either riding up Geronimo, National, or Shuttle. Head towards the National trail that goes to the west, but do not actually get on the trail. Corona Loma heads off to the left and down. Follow the trail down and then back up out of the valley it dropped down into. The trail will drop out on Desert Classic.

Summary:
Just a note for those that want to ride this trail... It's not in Mesa... It's part of the South Mountain Preserve in Phoenix.

Recommended Route:
From the west end of Desert Classic go up Telegraph Pass, then go east to the top of the Corona Loma loop. Then you can drop down to Desert Classic.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Desert Classic, National Trail, Mormon Loop, Geronimo, Holbert... Anything in the preserve is great.

Summary:
Very fun trail with 21 or 22 sharp switchbacks. Lots of loose, sharp rock. Recommend FS bike and good brakes (disc preferred) as hands suffer from constant braking. Trail only 1.5-2.0 miles long but lots of opportunity for injury. Don't recommend traveling alone in case of injury as trail is infrequently traveled. Two endings that both terminate eventually at Desert Classic.

Recommended Route:
Start on the south end, only mostly ridable end. Access from Buena Vista parking lot on the top of S Mtn east end. Go west from the parking lot & pass under the two post sign at the entrance to the lot and veer left. Trail goes down into a valley and up the southern most mtn. At the top apply armor and check brakes for fast, loose descent to Desert Classic trail.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
All S Mtn trails
