Sunny Side trail (Sierra Vista)

Getting to Gate 7 is a very technical ride and mostly uphill. Do not get discouraged before you get to the gate. What you have waiting after the gate is an awesome downhill ride for about 4 miles. This downhill can be a bit dangerous and technical so beware. Look for the Arizona Trail sign on the right about 4 miles after the gate. Take the trail several more miles to Hwy 83 and turn right to Parker Canyon lake. The Arizona trail is a great wilderness trail with lots of creeks and some sand. It is mostly a decline, so it is great for those one-way riders. The ride back will be the killer, even for the riders in good shape. My advice is leave a vehicle at the lake for a lazy drive back. Ride can take about 1.5 to 2 hours one way, the ride back is twice as long.

Trail Directions
You must get access to Fort Huachuca, drive into upper Garden Canyon and park at the last picnic area before the dirt road or at the Boy Scout cabin at the end of the dirt road (5 mile difference). Take the north-western trail 2 miles to Gate 7. At this gate the ride is about 50% downhill for about 15 miles to Parker Canyon lake.

Summary:
This trail kicks ass! It is a very fast trail that takes you to the lake, but the return is slow, real slow. You can take the trail straight to Hwy 83 or take the alternate and challenging route and ride the Az trail (my favorite). This trail is for the big boys, all others be carefull.

Recommended Route:
Get a pass to get on post and head to Fort Huachuca. Park at the last picnic area and ride from there.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Cooper Loop, Brown Canyon
