Moto (upper & lower)

COMING SOON: another scraped-safe woodland path near you: introducing the NEW, SAFE, AND soon-to-be LEGAL moto trail. moto's been a not-so-secret secret trail for years, but everyone who's ridden around flag for any length of time knows the moto trail well. named for the means used by the folks who originally set it in, moto's found itself (due to a recent gps survey of the area and the presence of spotted owl nesting sites) on the usfs' most-wanted list and both sections (upper and lower) stand to be improved (lower) and or partially eradicated (upper) this summer by the local federally-funded crew of trail re-engineers. lower moto was a great singletrack. upper moto a one-of-a-kind joy.

Summary:
This trail needs a helpful review.
Moto is NOT a downhill trail. Moto is also NOT littered with "big drops, jumps".
Lower Moto is a nice ascent into the upper Fort Valley area. Clean singletrack runs up a gulch and to an open fire control area with some tight twisties thrown in for good measure, then just a bit further up to the gas line. From there, access Upper Moto or an assortment of other trails, including social and secret trails.
Upper Moto is way more technical and provides the rider with opportunities to practice ride-up's, hops, pivots and crashes. YAY!

Recommended Route:
Downhillers should get back in their car and drive to the top of another trail. Cross-country riders should start following Shultz at the trailhead and take the fork to the Fort Valley system as is clearly documented in Cosmic Ray's guide. You cant miss this. Find Moto on Fort Valley trail. There are a few trails leading North toward the peaks. If you haven't found Moto yet, just keep bearing North on Fort Valley. Up is good.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Hotshot, Secret, Dogfood, many many more.

Summary:
Dissapointing. After riding "other" trails in this area, I was expecting moto to have big drops, jumps, and fun fast stuff.

The upper part is lava flows. Quite bumpy, but not much apart from that. Not very interesting.

The bottom part is relatively flat, wide, single track. Even more boring than the top.

Recommended Route:
Other trails on the North West side of Schultz Pass Road, I've been on a couple that were much better than moto.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Most of em.

Summary:
Pretty lame. I was expecting something a lot more exciting, instead it's just riding through some lava-flows on the upper trail, and very flat smooth singletrack on the lower part.

Recommended Route:
There are some other good trails in this same area (northwest side of shultz road), this is not one of them though.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Don't know the names...plenty of stuff on Shultz/Elden.
