Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Weekend Warrior Summary: I liked it a lot. It worked me with the elevation difference from Phoenix. Was well signed for the most part. The downhill was just what i needed at the time, lots of thrill but not much technical for this intermediate rider hungry for a chance at some good air time with good prospects of landing well. I bonked at mile 13 from not enough food early, but got over the exciting parts with energy to spare and had a lot of fun. Part of the fear is waiting for the mountain lions to drop on you. Riding it alone meant that I was absolutely by myself the whole time. Saw one cowboy working his cattle. Recommended Route: Go counter clockwise like they suggest.

, from Glendale, AZ Summary: This is a nice, scenic, easy 13 mile ride. By easy, I mean non-technical singletrack. There are some nice uphill areas that can be challenging. It is pretty well marked for the most part, until somewhere about 9-10 miles in, where we lost the trail for a while. Towards the end, there is a short, steep rocky downhill that is a bit challenging, but other than that, it is an easy, fast ride. It took us less than two hours. Recommended Route: Take 260 out of Showlow to the Vernon turnoff (right). Go about 10-12 miles down the road (turns into dirt after a couple miles) to the Los Burros campground turnoff to the left. The sign is a ways off the road, so keep your eyes peeled.

, from Tempe Summary: The trails I rode (Los Burros and the connection trail to Country Club) were in a word "boring". The scenery is good. However the trail does not offer anything as far as technical riding goes (i.e. not much fun). This trail would be good for beginners or someone who wants to get out of the heat and train on old logging roads at some elevation. Recommended Route: go to flag twice for the same amount of gas Other recommended trails in the same area: I spoke to several people at outdoor shops in the area and they said Los Burros was the best, so don't spend 4 hours in a car each way just to ride. If your in the area which is very scenic then get out and tool around for a while. Just don't expect any thrills. Maybe the downhilling at Sunrise?

, from phoenix, az Summary: sorry guys, i must be spoiled by national. while los burros is a nice change of scenery, i didnt find it to be a terribly challenging ride. indeed, there is alot of smooth ups and quick downs which makes for a quick ride however there is little if any technical on this trail. if youre in the area, los burros is worth giving a shot but dont make the drive from phoenix just for this ride. go to sedona or flag instead. Recommended Route: as above

, from Tempe, AZ Summary: A 15 mile loop in around 2 hours if you push. One of the best high elevation trails in the WMTS. Awesome singletrack, plenty of wildlife and it'll suprise you if you run into another rider while you're there. Pristine wilderness. Some very fast single track sections and a couple of whoop de woos that'll launch you high into the air! The most fun you can have with your clothes on!!! Recommended Route: Get the Map off the net under the White Mountain trai systems. Rangers station has maps too. Others directions to trail head work. Other recommended trails in the same area: Panorama, Timber Mesa, Ice Caves/ In Phx, Pima/Dynamite, South Mt. , Hawes Rd.
