Weekend Warrior Summary: The initial review is misleading, because of the route description. Pinal Peak has a network of 5 wonderful trails from the top of the mountain down to the ranger station. Icehouse's trailhead at the top is the second one you reach when driving up Kellner Canyon Road (the only driving access to the top). Kellner Canyon Trail is the first trailhead, then Icehouse. Continuing on up the road, you pass the trailheads to SixShooter Canyon and Telephone Trail, and at the top of themountian, you can go east down Squaw Springs, or Northwest down Ferndell (which ties into SixShooter and Telephone). All 5 trails have over 3,000 feet of vertical before you end up on paved roads again. All have a great variety of terrain and challenges. I usually ride them as shuttles, but have pedaled up the forest road to the top once (just because it's there). Recommended Route: Ride it as a shuttle, connecting to Check Dam Trail on the lower part of the mountain, then bearing east to SixShooter Canyon Road when you finally leave singletrack. We stage our shuttles fomr a diurt parking lot a few hundred yards north of the ranger station on SixShooter Canyon Road. Other recommended trails in the same area: Kellner Canyon, Telephone Trail, SixShooter Canyon, Ferndell, Squaw Springs/EastMountain.
Make a weekend of it, riding all the trails, cmaping ont he mountiantip, but eating Mexican food at Chalo's in Globe.
