Flagstaff to Sedona

The first 35 miles of the trail are mostly flat with a few uphill and a few downhill sections. The last 15 miles make for a super-fun, terrific, wonderful, awesome, gnarly, kickin', fast downhill ride. Before you go pick up a copy of AZ Fat Tire at a local bike shop ($10). This book has most of the info you need except for some critical details. For instance, many of the turns are not clearly marked even though the book says they are. Here's the rest of the info you need that is not included in the book: (this will make sense if you are looking at the trail description in AZ Fat Tire): 1) the urban trail ends at the pavement at the fairgrounds, turn left at the pavement to meet up with highway 89A; 2) look for and turn onto FS133 at Little Horse Park; 3) go through Mund's Park to the I17 access road instead of looking for the secret trail that connects Flagstaff to Sedona.

Summary:
Did this trail last Spring and although the first 40 miles are not technical is was a fun route with great scenery. Forest roads with mild climbs and decents. You'll need a shuttle for this and the final decent into town is a great way to end the ride.

Summary:
What did Cosmic Headwound just say? I sure as heck can't figure it out. Guess it's time to have his meds adjusted again. Anyway, this is a pretty good dirt ROAD tour. Use common sense and do it when the weather is nice and do it in the downhill direction . . . Flag to Sedona.

Recommended Route:
Like it says above.

Summary:
If you follow the map you should be able to ride the 44 dirt road miles from Flagstaff to Sedona without ever riding pavement and only crossing pavement twice. This is a five star dirt road tour.

Recommended Route:
The 2001 edition of Cosmic Ray's FAT TIRE TALES AND TRAILS ARIZONA MOUNTAIN BIKE GUIDE has a much improved route description detailing the section between Munds Park and Schnebly Hill Road. I went out and re-rode this a number of times until the route was nailed down so it can be done from the map alone.

Summary:
Great long ride, no kids, no dogs, leave early, bring lots of food and water. There is food and water in Munds Park.

Recommended Route:
I explored out this route 10 years ago and lots of sign changes have come down since then. Here is what you do if you are interested in the somewhat hardcore ride. After you leave Mountainaire, you will just stay on the main road until you get to Little Horse Park. There is a sign saying Little Horse Park. The FS 133 sign is gone. Turn right there. After 1.8 miles you come to FS240, the main road into Munds Park. From there, you are best off getting on I-17 and going one exit south to Schnebly hill road and heading down to sedona.

Summary:
my wife and i did it on a tandem and it was a blast. not very tech but fun all the same. we stopped in munds pk for lunch and continued back on the lost trails to schnebly hill rd. it was a butt rough kind of day but the descent on shnebly is nothing short of mind bending. my wife was hooting and hollering (no wonder, she was the stoker) as we cruised down 3000 ft in 6 miles aaat 30-40 mph. we were tired but happy. hope to do it again. take plenty of water and a couple of cliff bars or you will be sorry. have a shuttle in sedona unless you have a cape and a big S on your chest. the only drawback to the whole thing is getting lost between munds and schnebly hill rd.

Recommended Route:
We shuttled from the forest road off lake mary road and followed cosmic rays directions from there. it's easy to get lost when you approach munds park.
