Cross Country Rider Summary: this trail from the trail head is so over-grown that it makes it very dangerous even for an experienced rider. you are not able to see the trail and there are numerous hidden objects. the waterbars are rideable except you cannot see what is on the other side. this could be a wonderful trail with some maintenance but as is, it really is just a hike-a-bike. no fun!!!

, from CB Summary: This is a ride for adventure riders. Not buffed but well marked and alot of ridable. There is definately some hike a bike sections toward the Patagonia end of this trail. You can do it as a shuttle, driving up to Canello Pass and riding down, or you can add an additional 17 dirt road miles (good, scenic road) up to Canello Pass and then take the trail 15 miles to the Patagonia TH. This trail does not get ridden much and is out in the middle of nowhere - having ridden it 3 times I've never seen a single person - saw a big turkey last time tho - so being highly prepared and ready for all that comes with adventure riding is recommended. Not a trail for beginners and those not comfortable with loose rocks. This section gets low marks in some books I've read on riding the AZ Trail, however riding it in the direction I've suggested makes it quite a bit of fun. With more bike traffic and some trail work,(hint, hint IMBA trail crew) this could be an even more awesome ride. The AZ trail runs the length of AZ and there are many sections - this as mentioned does not see much traffic and in general is beautiful area - also, I've only ridden it in winter and spring, I suspect summer might be a bit brutal for temps but its all what your used to? Recommended Route: Canelo Pass down to Patagonia TH Other recommended trails in the same area: If your into cross riding with some fatter tires, the dirt road system out there is great. The trail system up arond Kentucky Camp is worth checking out - some nice single track along an old flume. Do a search under Kentucky Camp mountain biking and some directions will come up.
