East Glacier Trail

Recommended Route:
Really fun trail if you like technical riding. Havnt rode there since 2001 but would ride it 3 plus times a week. Mix it up and ride one way one day then other way the next. Challenge to ride down switch backs clean, just as hard to ride up it clean! Only reccomendation.. if its wet, dont try to ride the big sections of stairs, cracked a full face helmet doing that. Bike ridden is a 01 Kona Stinky.

Summary:
Excellent trail if you want to clib up some technical switchbacks and haul back down. The trail is technical enough to be fun and challenging. Once at the top you can contuniue on to Nugget Creek or the outlook.

Recommended Route:
Most other people say to go down the stair side. I've ridden both the stairs and back down the switchbacks, and the switchbacks are way funner. This HAS TO BE one of the best rails in juneau.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Moranine Ecology trail, Thunder Mountain trail, West Glacier trail, Tolk Rock

It is fun to go to the top and hall ass down and try to hit all the animals my best is 5. There are some stairs (go last you can see people eat shit!!!!). One of the best rides in Juneau! Overall I think if you like to eat yellow snow this is the ride for you.

Recommended Route:
Go up to the top and go down the back side.

Summary:
This is my favorite trail in Juneau, even though it has been toned down a little since it was "fixed" for tourist travel. It has a decent elevation gain through some fairly easy switchbacks, just technical enough to be fun. Some people turn around and ride back down the switchbacks, but I prefer the whole trail. The descent down the back side has some good moderately technical drops, after the approximately 110 stairs (which you can ride down). Loop length is about 3 miles.

Recommended Route:
The best place to start is a trail on the right of the road just before the visitor's center. After climbing a little ways, turn right onto the trail across from the glacial kettle (signed) Don't go up the trail by the shelter, this is the steep side of the loop. If you go the right way, you end up coming down by the shelter.

Summary:
This is technical riding at its best. Hans, the owner of the Mountain Gears shop can clean it. Watch out
for the Liposuction Rock. If you keep going you can
loop around and come back out onto the road, but you'll have to carry your bike down some stairs. I used to ride this when I lived in Juneau. That was 6 years ago, they may have closed it down now for all I know.

Recommended Route:
Leaves from behind the VC. Don't go during tourist season.

"Don't go during tourist season."

That's crazy. If its not covered in snow its tourist season.
