, from Palmer Summary: There's a lot of rock slides that are hard to get over but once you get past them it is a nice easy ride with a good view of the river. Recommended Route: Start from Nappa Other recommended trails in the same area: The is an old cat trail that goes up the north side of the butte. It is a short ride but it is freeking fast.

, from Anchorage Summary: The trail is mostly flat except for the many slides. I think I counted about 12 different slides that the bike had to be walked on. Be careful on one section of the trail (about 4 miles from the trailhead) that splits off and goes right next to a cut bank on the river. A friend of mine fell over the side and into the river because the trail was too narrow. Make sure you take the trail that heads into the woods. Overall the trail is a good one with many old rail cars and nasty looking slides. The scenery is nice as well with the Matanuska River running near the trail for most of the way.

, from Anchorage Summary: Muddy to start out in the spring. Four big slides where you have to walk you bike. Once past the slides the ride was great, flat and fast. Right on the Matanuska River. It would get five but for the slides. May be somewhat dangerous on the slide area.

Ridden Trail: Once a month

, from Wasilla, AK Summary: OK, I did this trail after a week of heavy rain. The main trail was awsome. A wide rail road bed lined on either sides by huge trees, their canopies obscuring the sky above me. The Matanuska river, approaching the end of it's journey to the sea was high and angry as it rushed along the side of the trail, so close in spots I felt as though I was on a promenade. BUT, the gravel slides had mud washes across many of them. Some ankle deep and too big to go around. I pushed through (walking) and took advantage of more fantastic trail on the opposite side. The rain did not soften the main trail (to my supprise), but there were a few puddles. I imagine that a normal rain would not produce the outpouring of glacial muck, but these past weeks have been bad, hence, the adventurous goo. Oh well, wash the bike, wash the shoes, wash my clothes.... It is a good day to ride. :o)
