Summary:
In the late summer of 04 I went to ride this with a buddy & his Girlfriend. We decided to hike it instead, because of the warning on the sign. While I am new to riding, I want to let you know that this Trail is very overgrown depending on the time of year you go (we had to crouch while hiking in several places), not that it should stop you. There is also a great potential to come to a VERY nasty fall if it happens at the Wrong spot (which are everywhere). This would be a VERY technical ride with having to walk several places not to mention getting your bike over fallen trees. I would suggest only competent riders take this on, but be aware as there are many Hikers on the trail and it's narrow, so be careful. We did pass 2 bikers on the hike that day. As far as wild life....It's Alaska, excpet something. Truefully I'd be more worried about falling.

Summary:
Rode this on the evening of 5-11-04, and the trail was in great condition thanks to the wonderful weather we've had recently. Several trees came down over the winter. All but one was cleared, though with the progress being made its probably gone by now. I Walked most of the roots, then rallied the rhythm section to the point in time to catch a blast of sun and sea breeze. What a view! I wish the Turnagain Arm offered more then the occasional bore tide to surf. There are several sections of this trail that offer a quick, somewhat direct route down to the beach, several hundred feet below. Not shear cliff, but very steep slope angles which put the tree tops about head high. While traversing one of these sections I came across a very stout and noble Bald Eagle perched on a treetop, just arms reach off the trail. It took flight just as I came up along side, what a rush! This trail may not be a 5, but what it lacks in riding is made up for by the location and locals. (wildlife)

Recommended Route:
Hope road to the end, take the trailhead.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Johnson, Devils and Resurrection Passes, Cresent and Lost lake. But not until July 1st I guess, giving us all of 3 months. WOW, thanks SRD!!!!!

Summary:
Forest service calls this a moderate to difficult trail. For once they got it right. It can be done folks. Just tons and tons of roots but very much worth the ride. almost died on avalance shoot last year. Went over the handle bars and fell left....there was nothing left but straight down. Went head first for twenty or so feet down slope before devil's club stopped me. Only a three because of the other spectacular rides in the area. Very scenic and beautiful. Walk the hard parts if you're new to this game and make sure you go with someone. BEWARE OF BEARS

Summary:
After reading the previous reviews I had to put my two cents in. This is an emminently rideable trail. You do have to like the technical stuff though. There are a couple of places you have to dismount and walk. It's rocky, rutted, rooted and muddy in spots. I only did one over the bar dismount the last time I rode it. Like most trails in Alaska this is true wilderness riding. Be prepared!

Recommended Route:
Go to the end of Hope road at the Porcupine camp ground.

Summary:
It says not recommended for riding but it can be done. I was camping there and just had to bring my bike, the first day i got to some of the real technical stuff and ended up falling about 12 feet off the edge of the bank into some trees...(first week with my new clipless pedals) and climbed back up to the trail and biked back then the next day went back and road it through, its a fun trail if you like technical riding and the view at the end is worth it.

Recommended Route:
Just get to hope and its at the campground.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
not too much else in the same area besides turnagian on the way there...
