Ester Dome and the Alder Chute
1 reviews
 5 of 5

The road has alot of switchback, so it is a relatively easy uphill. You will come out at the very top near the observatory. Ride downhill to the plateu area, and there will be a powerline to your left. This powerline is the beginning of the Alder Chute. The powerline is also a marathon trail, so it is not only wide, but there is a used trail, so only an idiot could get lost on it. The 2.5 miles, all downhill, is insane. It will shoot you out onto the Steese Highway, about 1 mile from the Ester Community Park.

Trail Directions
Park at the Ester Community park, near the firehouse. Ride back up the highway about 100 yards to the entrance to the mining area. There is an old, dirt road that starts heading up the hill. Take this old road, and it winds up Ester Dome about 4 miles.

Summary:
This trail is gorgeous and usually free of traffic. watch out for occasional runners, four wheelers, dogs and moose.

Recommended Route:
My only comment is that the alder shoot spits you out on the Parks highway, not the Steese. The Steese is about 15 miles away.
