Ridden Trail: Please Select
| |
Reviewed by: cygnus Summary: this place has a pull on me. i ride up there as often as i can, always on a singlespeed (36x20 or 34x19). big climb up basin road and up the trail. incredible views of the mountains as you go. climb up the metal bridges and keep going. climb, climb, climb. finally reach washouts as far as the trail goes. try and keep speed controlled on the way down in order to keep the peace with the many hikers (on the weekends and during nice weather). the trail has been closed in the past due to this conflict, so be cool. be aware of avalanche danger in the winter. occasional bears in the spring/summer but the cliffs 1/2 up are more dangerous than the animals. one of the best rides in juneau. Recommended Route: just go up basin road (up into the obvious valley above) from downtown juneau. can't miss it. Other recommended trails in the same area: sandy beach, mendenhall glacier trails, treadwell ditch access on blueberry hill, boy scout trail
