ATV trails of 11 & 5 mile loops
Somewhat rocky in places, but also lots of sand.
Big bermed corners and lots of straight-aways, mostly contour trail.
Very fast and open, can be dangerous with two-way traffic. BE CAREFUL around blind corners!
From I-65: Exit 328. Go west on AL-36, until you intersect AL-157. Go through AL-157 and make your first left on to Danville Rd (County Road 51). (Turns into Flint Creek Rd. and County Rd. 81)
4 miles from Hwy 157 there is a left bend in the road with a dirt road going west (Forest Service road 249 toward Brushy Lake. (At 3.7 miles you will pass Center church.)
Turn west onto the dirt road. The staging area is 0.8 miles past the church on the North side of the dirt road.
There will be NATRA arrows at the dirt road and at into the staging area.
If coming from S on I-65, you can also exit at 310 and take AL-157 North.
Summary: Pine Torch Trail is amazing. I have heard many people compare it to Tsali. As of October 08 the three loops are in amazing condition, the only draw back is the sand that appears to be brought in to stop the mukkiness. The descents are really fast and frequent with lots of switch backs that usually lead into a climb. If you live in the Huntsville/Madison area it is an excellent alternative to Monte Sano. Great drive from Madison as well.
Recommended Route: We rode counter clockwise and I think it is faster if you want more descending sections.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Monte Sano, especially McKay Hollow if you are up for technical, rocky descents.

Summary: Obviously because this is an ATV trail it is fairly wide. While this isn't the most ideal type of trail for riders, it is really hard-packed and you can work up some pretty good speed on it, especially if you use the berms to your advantage. One word of caution, don't go riding any time when it has rained within the last day or two, it is slicker than owl's snot when it's wet... way too sloppy to be worth it. But overall, go during the week to avoid the ATVs, get out on the trail and let the hammer down and crank out some good training miles. The climbs are good enough to make you put in some effort and the descents are usually rolling and just plain fun. Keep your eyes out for wildlife, I've seen snakes, deer, turtles, armadillos, and other little critters.
Recommended Route: On the weekends go clockwise, most of the ATVs run counterclockwise, but during the week there's usually no one out there and you can run whichever way you want. It's fun to make a figure 8 out of the two trails to make a longer route.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Pine Torch, Oak Mountain, Monte Sano
