Ridden Trail: Once a week

Weekend Warrior Summary: Nothing too difficult here. A fun trail, some decently fast sections, but just a little too short. Hasn't deteriorated yet like the Bartram sections. PLEASE NOTE: Tuskegee Nat'l Forest is open to hunters during the winter. I have often noticed hunters hunting the fire roads no more than about 30 yards from the trail. Today there were two hunting extremely close to the trail. One even grumbled that I should be wearing some orange. Since these good 'ole boys can't tell a deer from a human being riding a bicycle, or don't care to, I think I may wait until hunting season is over before I ride Pleasant Hill again. This is a real shame that bikers have to fear for their safety on one of the few trails in the area. Other recommended trails in the same area: Bartram- not well maintained but still has its fun parts. Swayback- a well groomed trail with something for everyone. Chewacla State Park- only if you're in the park for some other reason.

Racer Summary: In town for leg 1 of multi-day riding throughout Alabama; initially to ride the Bartram system. Parked at Wire Rd. side to find 2nd section by the creek closed. I was surprised to find the forest service had constructed Pleasant Hill trail as a replacement. A very uncanny surprise indeed! Nice trail with a few water berms that allow decent-air opportunities at speed. Singletrack most of the way with a few fireroad connections. Mostly downhill going in for approx. 4 miles. Return trip has a lil' more climbing (duh, as it is down and back!). Recommended Route: Let 'er rip on the way in, but be wary of local traffic. Ran out of time or would have done the north end of Bartram trail also. Be wary of sandy spots! Other recommended trails in the same area: Back in school, Bartram was what I learned on. Used to think it was great until having opportunity to ride in other states. Back then, it really needed dirt and TLC/manhours to repair erosion problems. I can only imagine what 7 years of "neglect" has incurred on what could be a great trail system.
Mt. Cheaha Express isn't too bad for those who enjoy technical rock riding, Oak Mtn, Chewacala State Park is also nearby and used to be semi-challenging.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Pleasant Hill is just that, a pleasant hill. It's an xc dream with great scenery, some intermediate grade climbs and some really fun hairpins. Although I would not call PH technical if you pay close enough attention you will find some small, fairly recent, contributions for the freeriders. If you know where to look there are about six or seven logs(Log-arythmn, 901, Dusty, Twisted Clit, Tasca, Shorty, The 30 -to name a few) to ride with varying difficulties; also a series of mini kickers. Most of the logs are chump proof, so chesters beware. Recommended Route: My favorite way to ride PH is starting at the southern end of the trail, it's a fun descent back to the car from that end. to get there go allthe way down S.College from Auburn. Other recommended trails in the same area: Phenix City is dope!
