Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Cross Country Rider Summary: I visited the in-laws in Enterprise over the Forth of July holiday and was able to get out and ride the Campus Trail on Saturday. Overall I would say it is a very nice trail. For the most part the trail is pretty smooth with some root roughness, and does not have many climbs. Good curvy single-track with some good flow. Not technical besides a few small tree crossings so would be a great beginner trail. I was not use to the sand so didn’t really like the deep sand in some of the corners, but it did not keep me from having a good time. There is some construction work going on at the campus and some of the trail is closed, but there is still enough trail to ride and have fun (just do a few laps). Recommended Route: I am not sure if the route I took was the best, but I followed previous advice posted here and went right at the entrance. Since some of the trail is closed I had to turn around and come back on the same trail and then did a loop on the other end. Other recommended trails in the same area: This was only one of two trails that I am aware of in the area. Rode the trails at Fort Rucker on Friday and had a good time too. The trails at Fort Rucker require more skill, but don’t flow nearly as well as the Campus Trails and requires more skills in way finding.

Weekend Warrior Summary: The trail surface was a mix of leaf litter, sand, and pine needles. Very slippery, so be careful with the brakes! It's mostly very smooth, with a few sections of small roots but nothing major and no issues climbing on the small uphills. I'm not sure about the mileage, but it took me about 40 minutes to do the loop. The five or six miles people have mentioned seemed about right. The trail has lots of switchbacks and tight turns, so be careful with your speed when it opens up. You might not have enough traction to brake for the next turn! There's really nothing technical about the trail, other than two small log obstacles. There are plenty of fallen trees around, however, so it would be nice to see some ladders or something else built in for more of a challenge. I didn't see any trail markings other than one piece of orange tape and one blaze, but it's very easy to follow so it's not an issue. Recommended Route: I went left at the trailhead fork, but it's one big loop so it really doesn't matter. If you go right at the fork, you'll ride the smoother section of trail first, if you want a warm-up. Other recommended trails in the same area: The Fort Rucker trails are more challenging and have longer/steeper climbs, but the Troy State trail has better flow.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This is a great trail. In fact, its one of the better ones I've been on in awhile. There's nothing very technical or anything about it. I liked how fast paced it can be and how winding some of the fast turns are. I seemed to get about 5 1/2 miles out of the loop and it was a very good workout. There are some nice views such as a little pond that has a small dock that goes out over it and there are a couple of log jumps to go over also. Recommended Route: I started by eering to the left. I've heard the right is easier. Other recommended trails in the same area: First trail I've ridden in Alabama.

Cross Country Rider Summary: About 6 miles of singletrack. Very twisty and covered with leaves and pine straw so watch your tire selection. A very flat trail with some roots and not much excitement for the adrenaline junky. This trail's record time as I have heard from the local bike shop is 28:20. The local bike shop to visit is just down the road at Dothan Cycle and Fitness. If you are looking to brush up on your tracking lines and turns this is a very good loop ride to work out a good cardio ride. If you are pushing yourself for speed this can be a fun loop to keep time. Recommended Route: To the right as you enter the trail seems to be the route of choice. Other recommended trails in the same area: Fort Rucker has a few trails that have a pretty good fun factor but no actual loop to follow.

Weekend Warrior Summary: New section has been added bringing the loop up to about 5.5 miles. Previous info about lap time is out the window. Ride fast and thank the kind folks at Troy State Dothan for this fun trail. Recommended Route: The trail is a loop. Other recommended trails in the same area: Swayback Bridge in Wetumpka
