Weekend Warrior Summary: For a beginning rider, avoid this trail. The land trust is difficult depending upon which route you take, and be prepared to break, and do some intense inclines. It's definitely a technicians paradise but for those who simply want to enjoy the ride, you may find this to be a bit more then you want. Other recommended trails in the same area: Monte Sano

Cross Country Rider Summary: Land Trust Toll Gate trail and Bluff line. Very difficult. If you have great bike handleing skills you will love this trail. It is most fun to ride it clock wise. If you feel very strong and insane go for it in the opposite direction after you finished it clock wise. Why not this is if you are feeling strong and cocky or insane rather. Recommended Route: One of my favorite rides on Monte Sano would be From Owens drive in Blossomwood to toll gate trail (1st left),stay on this trail crossing a couple of other intersections (beware this is very techy) cross the land trust parking lot and continue up the toll gate trail (this part of the TGT is just an uphill rock garden) until you come to the trail marker to the high trail. At the high trail/bluffline intersection turn right for a very technical descent. Not for beginners whatsoever. Stay left until you come to a bench then continue straight thru a creek bed. About 200yd past the creek turn left and cross another creek and keep on climbing all the way back up to the land trust parking lot and ride the toll gate trail back down. This is a difficult ride that can be done faily quickly if you are familiar w/ the trails. Other recommended trails in the same area: Arrowhead trail combined with the above trail makes for a killer mini epic. Take food, tubes, water and other necessary biking supplies.

Cross Country Rider Summary: these trails are extremely technical and that makes them seem longer then they are. if you enjoy a technical ride for fun w/good ups and downs, these are for you. you can't ride when the trails are wet Recommended Route: 1. get a map
2. park at the hikers parking lot on tolgate
3. head up the mountain on the tolgate trail which is a gravel uphill w/ switchbacks (hardest climb)
4. go right a junction w/high trail
5. follow the high trail all the way and turn right onto bluffline
6. after a short distance take a left onto the wagon (make sure to stay on trail)
7. stay on the wagon trail (not the alms wagon) until you get to trail intersection w/a bench
8. take a right onto the alms house and follow that until a trail intersection w/the railroad bed
9. go across the creek and then on the railroad bed
10. when you get to the bottom of the tolgate trail go right and start climbing and stay on the single track
11. you'll end up at the hikers parking lot Other recommended trails in the same area: montesano trails on top are fun

, from Huntsville AL Summary: The Land Trust's main trail is not even a quarter mile from my house so it shouldn't be any surprise that I ride these trails every weekend. Each trail has its own easy and hard points, and all trails in the land trust vary in rider experience from very easy to extremely technical. But no matter how pro you are, you will find that each trail has its own fun parts, even for intermediate freeriders at the waterfall. I highly recommend this trail to anyone near the north Alabama area who wants to have a good time. Recommended Route: Railroad Trail, Alms House Trail (extremely technical), Wagon Trail, High Trail Other recommended trails in the same area: Monte Sano, just be sure that youve got permission from the ranger.

, from nashville Summary: FYI...if you attempt to follow Paul's (below) review, you will become hopelessly lost. he has attempted to take you on a full tour of the mountain with minimal details. he has also failed to provide any good, useful, information. actually, the route/review makes no sense at all unless you are extremely familiar with the area. i know exactly what he's talking about, but i've spent no fewer than 500 days on this mountain and know it about as good as the park rangers. granted, it is hard to become literally lost here...it's in the middle of a city, but it's a big park. and the land trust trails and monte sano trails are two different things...kinda...they're both on monte sano mountain, but the land trust trails are separate from the park trails at the upper part of the mountain. at any rate, get a map, don't rely on paul's review, and you should be fine. paul, this isn't a personal attack, i just don't want anybody to get up there and get lost after dark...it happened a few years ago and a couple of kids spent an unplanned night in the woods talking to rescuers and parents via a cel-phone while news crews reported about it around the clock...so it's possible to get lost, especially your first time up...and especially if you're out of shape and run out of daylight. Recommended Route: re:
