Weekend Warrior Summary: I haven't ever ridden this trail but from the descriptions given in the reviews I know where they are talking about. That trail now no longer exists as all of that trail area has been turned into a huge subdivision. Recommended Route: None Other recommended trails in the same area: Oak Mountain State Park
Cahaba Wildlife Management Area
Cahaba River Wildlife Refuge

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Cross Country Rider Summary: Used to be my old stomping grounds before I moved to TN. This is an excellent trail and the first downhill really takes some nerve and a lot of skill to navigate quickly. If you take the correct turns, you will feed into the Cahaba Wildlife Management Area, so this could easily be an all day ride if you want. Other than that, it's an excellent trail. DO NOT USE THIS TRAIL FOR TAKING SOMEONE ON THEIR FIRST RIDE!! They'll sell their bike the next week if they're not hard core about getting into the sport.
If you can climb back up the first downhill without stopping (or having a heart attack), consider yourself a strong rider will excellent bike handling skills. Recommended Route: Haven't ridden it in two years, so don't know what's changed.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Feb 16 2005
This is a pretty decent trail if you want to stay away from the crowd and get a good workout. Go when its dry, I attempted it wet today and wore myself out. Plenty of downhills and climbs. My clicker said 9 miles and I was still finding new routes...I plan to hit this one again and again. If kids are playing on the play ground when you drive around back, you may take the the time to let someone in the school office know what your intentions are. Most folks dont realize there are trails back there.

Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

, from Alabaster, AL Summary: I tried to bike this trail Jan 3rd, 2001. It was 34 degrees and the road had turned to red mud by 1 PM, the time of day of my attempt. The review I had read said nothing about how hilly this fireroad was. The part I attempted (about a Mile or so) was totally up and down. I turned around at the summit of what I judged to be about a 30 degree 1/4 mile downgrade. Because of the redclay mud the tires of my TREK 6000 may as well have been slicks. No traction whatsoever on the more than moist day I made my attempt at this camelback fireroad. For me, the name of the game is Mountain Biking, not Walking along with your bike pushing and pulling it. So, this 51 year old, took one look down the mountain and punted. I was by myself and did not think it wise to go it alone under so what I judged to be to slick of a track and isolated local in cold weather. I'm sure a lot of people love the chalange of big long climbs, but on a day like the one I went there the downhill looked really dangerous without any traction. Pick a dry day. I did not see any sign of this trail flattening out. If there is another place to begin this trail besides the school I'd be interested, but only if I could be assured that it was a bit flatter somewhere else. Recommended Route: South of Birmingham take I-65 South and exit Pelham exit #242, turn right and follow county road 52 to and accross US Hwy 31 into Helena. Hiway 52 leads right to a stop sign and Helena Elementary School. Behind the school their is an atletic field and the woods. There's a small trail on the left that leads up the hill to the fire road. Take a right, You'll be bikeing on Helena Elementary Trail. Other recommended trails in the same area: Oak Mountain State Park, the sine qua nan of Mountain bike trails.
