Genes Loop

Singletrack throughout with the exception of a brief period on a jeep trail near the beginning and pavement near the end. The trail winds through longleaf pine forest as well as stands of oak, hickory etc. One hard climb followed by a very fun and fast and narrow downhill make the trail a winner. Also, there are a couple of log obstacles on the trail. All in all the trail is a lot of fun.

Summary:
This is great trail that I have ridden for years. There have been many improvements to this trail since 2004. Lately they put in some small log stunts. This is a great trail for everyone. Smooth singletrack baby!

Recommended Route:
clockwise is the way to go, counter-clockwise is too easy.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Marks, iron legs, cheaha

Summary:
I just rode this once this week when passing through the area. Gene's Loop was closed due to a controlled burn. From the portion I did get to ride, it looked like this was once a nice trail -- I wouldn't recommend making a special trip to ride it now given the burning and the logging. On the plus side, I rode Mark's loop - a very nice non-technical, groomed and fast single track loop that starts in the hunter's camp parking area across Highway 9. Too short to justify the trip, but nice if you are passing through as I was and looking for a quick ride.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Cheaha is good; I've heard that iron legs in the same area is nice also, but I didn't have time to check it out.
