Motorcycle trails that have been there for 25+ years. Mostly single track with some rocky technical sections. Killer 2 mile climb to water tower going counter clockwise. Not for the weak hearted. Fast downhills and overall challenging.

Summary:
Very Very MUDDY, but tons of fun. Lots of time you will have to stop due to the huge mud pits...or just go full speed and land in the water...either way it's fun. Once you get past the first .5 to 1.0 mile probably, its an uphill climb with some technical spots, but pretty much a steady uphill climb. Its definitely a Dirtbike/ATV trail for the first part and then when you get to the uphill climb, its much more mountain bike friendly. If it hasnt rained in 2-3 weeks the trail would be great and not too muddy. If it has rained anytime recently, prepare to get very muddy. Overall the trail was pretty fun for a 2-3 hour weekend ride.

Recommended Route:
We did'nt stick to one particular route. We were all over the place so I dont really have a recommendation.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Wade Mountain.

Summary:
Very rocky and often very muddy, but an excellent workout. A good 2-3 hour riding spot. Giving credit where credit is due, the trails at COlonial Hills were created by and are maintained by older dirt bike riders, all of whom have been polite and helpful as far as I've seen and heard. Someone mentioned snakes, but I've only seen maybe a dozen there in as many years.

Recommended Route:
Cross over the RR tracks, and then wander around at will. The hilly area is obvious.

Summary:
I dragged my mnt. bike along on what would have otherwise been a sleeply little two-week stay in Decatur Alabama. I read the reviews, and hit this trail 2 days after some heavy rain. I don't think that any of the water had drained off. In all fairness I did not ride the whole trail, but finally turned around when I did not feel like bushwhacking around a pond (yes pond) that had formed in the middled of the trail. This seemed like mostly a 4 wheeler trail, and I did not see any single track. Aside from the 3 kids skipping school, who were trying to pull out a stuck 4 wheeler from the mud, I did not see anyone else. I did, however, feel like I was being watched the whole time. Keep an eye out for Alabama poisonous snakes. I ended up riding around the neighborhoods to salvage my trip, but felt like some kind of alien. Hopefully I'll get a chance to head over to Chatanooga for some real riding before the business trip is over. Unless your just looking for a quick fix, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

Summary:
Good quality trail lots of fun even for beginners with no idea what they are doing. This was my second trail to ever ride and it is one of my absolute favorites. There are a few tricky spots that require some attention and the trail is VERY muddy after a storm. This is because of the dirtbikes that frequent the trail. Usually the riders are friendly and will let you pass. At least I have never had any trouble with them. This trail is well worth the drive and you will not be sorry for riding it.

Recommended Route:
Take the long way by sticking to the left. It provides a nice long downhill at the end.

Devil's Racetrack, Oak Mt, Monte Sano

Summary:
This is my favorite trail in Huntsville. Alot of work has been put into improving the trail and some new ones have been added. The counter route starts out with a little flat stuff then you begin a 2 mile semi-technical climb to the water tower. This climb used to be very technical but has been improved greatly. The rest of the trail has it all, smooth fast single track, technical climbs and decents and a little mud here and there. There is also a multitude of routes and side trails that make this trail one of the best in North Alabama.

Recommended Route:
Counter clockwise gives you a long climb right from the start and that's what the locals call the "normal" route. However, counter clockwise is just as fun.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Mote Sano, Wade Mountain
