Westchase Buffalo Bayou

Average Rating:    (3.6 of 5)

The trail is not marked, but well trodden. It is full of joggers and walkers in the evenings, and very easy to get lost in. There are several splits along the way, so watch and remember where you are turning. There is only one way in and out that I have found. It makes its way around the woods next to the Buffalo bayou near the Beltway on the West Side of the city. There are some short expanses of singletrack, not too many roots, and some very fun, but very steep drops, and climbs. Also watch for low hangin branches, but for being so close and in the middle of everything, its a nice little escape for an evening ride, and to work up a sweat.

Trail Directions
From Memorial Drive, and Sam Houston Pkwy S(Beltway 8 feeder road), turn south. Follow bends in the road, until it brings you to Deerwood drive, just after a small toll booth on the right, but before the large Tollbooth stretching acroos the Beltway. Turn right on Deerwood drive, past the apartment complex at left, and park in the cul de sac at the first bend in the road. You will find the trailhead there, at the edge of the woods.

Summary:
I don't know if anyone can help me with this, but, I have not been able to find a thru-way from the other ant hills trail east of the bowl, even after crossing the bayou on the log crossing (who put the cross timbers on that log crossing ... it was a lot funner balancing on one log, and wheeling the bike on the other) ... Anyhoo, I still see people going back there to walk sometimes. Is it bad to continue trying to ride there? Thanks,

Anyone know the reason for this?

Summary:
This area is known as the east side. It is the new addition to the anthills. There are some good climbs and drops, two tree crossings, small roller coasters, and lots of off camber turns. Watch out for the GOF around the culdesac. This area is not recomended for newbies.

Summary:
If I am not mistaken, this is the new extension of the Ant Hills that extends from the original trail head at Wilcrest and the Bayou to the Beltway. We usually park near the apartments accross the street from the Country Club (1 block south of the bridge on Wilcrest). I think the apartments are called Lakewood. If I am wrong, let me know. Thanks, and I hope this helps.

As I said before, it has steep drops and climbs, and is fun, yet tight singletrack.

I need to make a change in the directions ... my apologies if its confusing ...
The trail is off of Sam Houston Pkwy S(Beltway 8 feeder) and Deerwood drive. There is an apt complex on your right as you turn onto Deerwood drive, and a large fenced in business on the left. The trail head is at the cul de sac, at the first left turn in the road on Deerwood.
