Cross Country Rider Summary: Writing this review mostly to let everyone know that all the trails will be closed to bikes on Dec. 8 2008 for the Annual Sunmart Texas Endurance Run.
Beginner level single track, but open enough to let more advanced riders ride fast and make an otherwise boring trail interesting. Fair amount of roots and sand. Recommended Route: Ride the Chinquapin trail a lap or two in each direction, adding the Dogwood and Praire Branch Trails in for a break from the roots. Other recommended trails in the same area: Memorial Park, Houston

Weekend Warrior Summary: I rode the 7 mi. Chinquapin trail on 8/1/08. The trails are dry and in good shape. Riding the Huntsville State Park trails is a lot of fun and a great workout. It offers enough of a challenge for experienced riders, but is not too difficult for beginners. The climbs are not too steep, but mostly long and gradual over roots and sand. The trees provide lots of shade when it's hot. Bring plenty of water because there are no water stations or restrooms along the trail. Recommended Route: Chinquapin or Triple C

Weekend Warrior Summary: Nice singletrack not to difficult ,lots of roots and slight elevation changes. Service road that runs around perimeter of park is great for beginners, very fast at times.SE portion of service road has tree fall blocking it (can go under)on 3/31/8. Pretty well marked nice day trip for riding or you can camp out

Cross Country Rider Summary: I just got back from the Huntsville State Park 09-06-07 and let me tell you WOW!!! I live about an hr. way down I-45 and take the trip up there every so offten. I really like the ride. It cost $4 for the day and you could spend the hole day there riding the differnt trails. Ask for a map when you pay or enter the trail head and you will find your way around with out any problem. I took the Chinquapin Trail and it was about 7 miles on a great well maked trail with lots of up and down hill runs. I was not go hard of a ride and would be great for the joy rider. There are some new rebilt bridges and the trail was well packed. There are alot of roots so I hope you have shocks. There is alot of nice things along the way to stop and take a look at. There are a few other riders and runners to look out for. They are having a large race up there Sep. 15th-16th for info go to http://www.bikelanehouston.com/bikelanehouston4.html I love riding this area. Recommended Route: The Chinquapin Trail

Ridden Trail: Every few months

Cross Country Rider Summary: I love riding this trail. It is not difficult, but presents some good climbs and fast downhill runs. I rode it yesterday (1.10.06) starting around 5:00 p.m. The sun was setting and made the ride tricky due to the shadows, but it was dry and fast. The climbs are longer than any other climbs around the Houston area (very flat land) with lots of tree roots to climb over. You never feel as though the design of the trail is just switch-backs. Instead, there seems to be a destination for the trail. The downhill runs are fantastic: fast, challenging, slippery at times, overall exhilirating. Its always amazing how fast you can fly down the hills and how long it takes to climb them. Doesn't matter which way you go on the trail, it always feels like you're climbing more than shooting.
It is too far from Houston to ride consistently, but if you have a few hours or are in the Huntsville area, stop and enjoy the park.
Also, it costs $4 to get in. Recommended Route: I45, exit 109, there are plenty of signs for Huntsville State Park.
