Weekend Warrior Summary: The trails at Terry Hershy Park are terrific. There are about 25 miles of road trails "one way" and 15-20 miles of single track on the other side of the bayou. The single track dirt trails are fun and well maintained. I recommend riding with a partner on dirt because the trails are tight with many trees. There is also a freestyle "bowl" with many jumps with landing ramps, drop ins, and whip to do's. This trail is extremely well maintained. When it rains the locals shut down the trails so it doesn't destroy the track. It is lots of fun. My 6 year old daughter rides the beginner trail and loves them.
This is one of the best trails to ride in Houston. My house backs up to the trailhead, so, I'm a bit biased... Recommended Route: For riding on dirt, I recommend parking at the trail head on beltway 8 / buffalo bayou and ride to Wilcrest road, take a left go over the bridge "Buffalo Bayou" and the entrance is about 200 yard on left "across from Lakeside Country Club" after spending time in the bowl one can cross Wilcrest and travel toward Buffalo Bayou and before you get to the bridge the entrance to the single track is on the left. This trail goes for miles. There are two levels of the trails the top and the bayou, so the trail traverses from the top to the bayou. This gives you many downhills and uphill climbs. Its a great fun and a nice challenge.
Enjoy!!!

Weekend Warrior Summary: The Anthills are a blast to ride, the trails aren't too hard (unless you ride where it's hard) and it's a fun weekend ride, the only thing that I don't like about this trail is that it runs along the bayou and I hate being able to see water 10-15 feet down the whole time right next to me, all though I ride the top trails mainly. I'd hate to fall into the bayou. If you want a nice ride, this is a great trail, I love the open singletrack in the beggining for the first mile or mile and a half. That's my favorite part because it's not along the water, I still love this trail and it's the closest trail to my house so I go to it every two weeks or so. It might sound like I don't like this trail, but I love it! Memorial Park's Ho Chi Minh trails beat these in my mind any day, if you have a chance, go there and then ride these. Recommended Route: Go under the bridge at Eldridge and have a blast all the way through! Other recommended trails in the same area: Ho Chi Minh Trails in Memorial Park

Cross Country Rider Summary: The Anthills have long been my favorite trail in the Houston area. It has everything a biker could want, given the elevation of Houston. The off road trail has changed since hurricane Ike made its way through the South East Texas coast. Most of the lower trails are no longer ridable or are cluttrerd with debris from Ike. The trail gnomes have carved new twists and turns in the upper section to make it more difficult and also more fun. Most of the trail is on the higher side by the paved sections or the golf course that is nearby. Off road riders will get a good workout and have a blast doing it. The off road section by itself is probably about 4 miles one way. When the trail is wet hit the pavement for a long ride that is a good change of pace as well as a good place to meet other riders. If you ride from Highway 6 to the end of the trail at Beltway 8 it is about 7.5 miles. Do the math and you can get a good 15 mile ride in. The trail is also hilly with twists and turns to keep you on your toes. This trail is a definite must if you live on the west side of town, but even if you don't, go check it out and make a day of it. Get on your Bike and Ride!!!! Recommended Route: Park at the Levy off Highway 6 and follow the trail all the way to the Beltway. Off road section starts at the Eldrich Bridge and goes to Wilcrest and beyond. You will be riding along side Buffalo Bayou no matter which trail you ride.

Cross Country Rider Summary: I just found this trail recently and wished I would have found it a long time ago. It is not the most technical trail in the world but not bad for a city. I enjoy actually putting some miles on compared to doing short mileage circles at Memorial Park. People seem to be more friendly here also. Recommended Route: I like to follow as close to the bayou as possible, but there are many other options. Other recommended trails in the same area: Memorial Park, Paved Terry Hershey Park Trail

Cross Country Rider Summary: I live in the East Texas area and regularly ride some pretty good trails. I checked out the Ant Hills in Houston today and was pretty disappointed. The signage is horrible and the trail has been terribly eroded. The paved areas are nice for a Sunday stroll, but the off road sections are quite lacking. Next time I will bring my road bike! Recommended Route: Just followed the route of some of the other reviews.
