Tyler State Park

TONS of twisty, rolling, inches-wide singletrack with exposed roots and sand in sporadic locations. Wood bridges over ravines and gullies, with Permanent shade from the Live Oak forest canopy.

Summary:
Densely wooded single track with rolling hills nestled in a beautiful state park. Decent ascents some with switchbacks but nothing too major. Some very nice descents that have good flow that allow you to carry speed around corners. There are a couple descents that are fairly steep and straight where you can get some good speed…really fun. I certainly wouldn’t call them “downhill” sections but you can definitely get some speed. My max was 22 mph but I didn’t hammer on it since it was my first time on the trail and didn’t know what to expect. The first major decent transitions into a pretty steep root filled short ascent that will test you climbing ability. Most of the trail is hard packed with many roots and a few rocks along the way. A few cool jumps built along the side of the trail where you could get 2’-3’ of air. There are 5 loops – EZ (as the name implies is just that) – A (beginner) – B (beginner-intermediate) – C (intermediate) – D (intermediate). I wouldn’t consider any of the trails to be advanced or expert. In any case, it’s a cool trail that’s suited for riders of all degrees of ability. I really had a good time riding this trail. I wish I could ride it once a week but I live in Grand Prairie just west of Dallas. But it’s definitely worth the 1hr 45 min drive to ride every now and then.

Recommended Route:
EZ, A & B for beginner; C & D for more advanced; I did the entire outer loop which consists of parts of loops A thru D, about 11 miles.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Bar H, Cleburne, Ceder Hill, Johnson Branch

Summary:
I just have to come right out and say that the use of "downhill" is quite liberal for this trail. It is not a downhill...each of the two sections are 3 seconds long and there is a nice (read gear grinding momentum killer) uphill after the first.

Now, that said, it is a super cool, chill little trail. If you are in the area it is definitely worth it to check out. You can bust it backwards if you ride during the week or super early on the weekends but is not recommended when there is high traffic.

On that note, this trail has the highest "weekend Wally" traffic I've ever seen. It is not uncommon to see some poor family struggeling out there, dad riding a beach cruiser (I swear I've seen it), mom on her garage sale bike, and junior(s) on their Wal-Mart BMX bikes. Holy crap, all I can say is watch out when you see that group coming.

To sum it all up, super cool XC trail but no downhill part and watch the weekend traffic...

Recommended Route:
Follow the signs.

What other trails? Do you know of another trail I can ride around this God forsaken area? If so please let me know...

Summary:
Loved this trail. Too bad it's at least 1 1/2 hours from Dallas (or farther). If I lived east of Dallas, I'd be riding it constantly. Great climbing (for Dallas ;) ) and good descents. Very well built, nice scenery. There are some sections where you can really let your bike go.

Recommended Route:
(EZ, A, B, C, D) x 2
