Sister Grove

The consists of two loops of single track that form a figure eight. The terrain is rolling hills with a mixed of open field and wooded sections. There are a few tight twist rooty sections that are challenging.

Summary:
Rode this trail last weekend and was not impressed by it. The trail was mostly a huge rut and I did not like that. The Sister Grove loop has a hard bottom with some hills that challange your stamina. I will probably never ride this one again due to it being so far away from where I live and the ruts.

Recommended Route:
Just do the Sister Grove loop cause the other one sucks.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Most of the DORBA trails. I.E. Boulder Park, LB Houston, Isle of Dubois, Rowlett Creek, and Arbor Hills.

Nice trail if you live in the area or you want to tack another trail after Erwin down the road ... that's what I do. Great trail to pick up some speed and see how far you can push it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:

Summary:
New section of wooded trail has been added to the Sister Grove
Loop, increasing the trail length to just on 6 miles. The new
section flow well and has a couple of logs to hop over. Most of the rut problems that people have reported here have
been fixed by reroutes or fixing the ruts. This trail is now more
fun to ride then when it was initially built in '92 - '94. When it was
initially built it had too many fall line climbs/descends (the cause
of most of the ruts). Technically this is a easy trail but it does have a few technical
spots. This trail will test your fitness level with the hills.

Recommended Route:
clockwise and go left at the gate

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Rowlett Creek in Garland and Erwin Park in McKinney.

Summary:
Local volunteers have put in lots of time over the last year to improving the trails. 12 reroutes have been added around badly eroded/rutted trail sections. The trail work is not done, because there are still a few more rutted sections that need major work. The trail now is a lot more fun to ride, since you're no longer battling to stay upright in the ruts. The is even more fun to ride then when it was orginally built (less heart pounding climbs, so you have more recovery time). There is still one major rut that is 3ft wide and about 4ft deep in places. Plans are to reroute around it. However it is currently ridable, but it something that shouldn't be in the trail. Overall the trail is a fun ride with one tight twisty technical section at the end. It is ideal for beginners because there aren't too many trees to run into.

Recommended Route:
The trail goes clockwise. It has two loops that form a figure 8. At the junction of the two loops always goes left.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
In the summer time it best to ride before 11:00am or after 5:00pm because of the heat.

Summary:
This is a beginner to immediate level trail. This is a semi-fast trail where the hills will make you work. Of the two loops (Sister Grove and Lake), the more fun one IMHO is the Sister Grove loop. It is faster, more woods and more technical. Its also the first one so if you want to, you can skip the Lake Loop. Comments:
trail maintenance:
if you ride you need to do trail work. I don't believe a trail needs to be prefectly groom to have fun or be good. problems:
Sister Grove has one major problem. Ruts. These ruts are caused by poor trail design. It will take several years to fix. Hints:
1) best time of year to ride this trail is in the winter when it is dry. 2) DON'T ride this trail when it is MUDDY. It won't be fun and it is bad for your bike and the trail. 3) In the summer time the trail will develop large cracks, because it is mostly clay and that is what happens when it dry out because of the heat and lack of rain.

Recommended Route:
The trail is two loops that form a figure eight. The direction is clockwise. The loops are Sister Grove and Lake Loops.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Other trails in the area are: Erwin Park, Bonham State Park and Tyler State Park.
