a beginner to intermediate trail, which is mostly flat, with short climbs. A good mix of hard pack, gravel, and loose soil, with roots, and switchbacks, it is technical, but not too technical. Even the most experienced rider will find this trail enjoyable. Can be very sticky after a rain.
From Dallas: off of Northwest Highway, turn onto California Crossing. Go west, trailhead is approx 1.4 miles on left. You can also exit Luna Rd.(go south) from Northwest Highway, as it deadends into California Crossing. From Irving: take O'Connor north, through Las Colinas, until you come to Rochelle. Turn right (the only way you can). The next road to the left is California Crossing. The trailhead is approx. .4 miles on the right.
Summary: LB Houston is now a 7.5 mile trail. It has come along way over the past few years to be a great entry level place to ride. This is the place I like to bring new riders to mountain biking so they can get a handle on the basics.
I personally ride a 26" single speed there with a 34t to 16t gearing. This is a fantastic place for single speed riding because the entire trail takes place in a flood plain. The only dips and climbs you make are mostly going, or coming out of drainage ditches. Still this can be a lot of fun to the right people. But for an experienced rider on a geared bike, I could see how this trail could be considered boring.
If you are looking for a hardcore riding challenge, LB Houston is not the place to go. There are a great many other technical and demanding trails in the DORBA system for you to try.
But if you are looking for a place to ride with your kids, or perhaps help encourage friends new to the sport, LB Houston is awesome. Because of this I am thankful for all the work done there.
Recommended Route: There is only one way to basically go. It would be great perhaps if the powers that be reversed the trail direction every now and then to shake things up. I like to do three laps on the single speed.
Other recommended trails in the same area: There are many great trails in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Check out the DORBA website. But none on the basic level like LB Houston.

Summary: Nice trail and very flat. You can HAUL ass on this one. Has lots of twist thru the trees and you can work on your turns. Has some dipsy doos and a few man made jumps, a turtle, and a teter totter. Paul Hacks with DORBA has really worked hard on this one and kudos to him.
There used to be a lot of undesirables here but the city of Dallas and Paul have ran most of them off. You can make it thru in about 30 minutes and is a good 6.4 mile run that you can do in the afternoon. They have a Tuesday night run for anyone who wishes to ride at night. This is not a technical course at all.
Recommended Route: Start counter clockwise and just follow the trail at the parking area.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Boulder Park, Arbor Creek, Sister Grove and Isle Dubois/Johnson Branch.

Summary: This is a great trail, even though there are no real hills....but for a quick afternoon ride you can't beat it....with all the turns and tight trees this trail will keep you on your toes....on a good day you can complete it in less than 40 minutes...I like to ride it twice when I have the time. Riding this trail in the middle of the week usually means you are alone and can go as fast as you like.
Recommended Route: The only way too go! Once your in the parking area, take your bike and head right. Puts you right in the trees and then the trail is pretty clear.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Knob hills, Northshore.

Summary: This trail Should be reclassified as a cycle cross trail. Not much of a challenge. I don't see the advantage to switchbacks on dirt. There is no technical, climbs, rocks or the basic things required to make it a cross country trail. The only use for this trail is an easy ride in the trees.
Arobic difficulty is directly related to how hard you ride.
Recommended Route: Why bother?
Other recommended trails in the same area: Grapevine Northshore, Erwin, Cedar Hill
