The best riding in the state of Texas. A 15 mile ribbon of singletrack through an oak forest along a shorline oftentimes cliffside. Lots of stiff climbing- long downhills-bold technicals moves-unknown.
Summary: i rode juniper point to cedar bayou. 2.5 mi. O/W. tis review is only for this section of trail.
there is no question this is one of the most challenging trails in texas.
the whole thing was ridable but.....for me, a strong advanced rider, there were simply too many flowmomentum killers to enjoy the ride. roots, yes , rocks yes, turns yes, short climbs yes, deadly drops off into the lake, yes.
none by themselves would slow you up. but they work together to cause halts and dismounts, and then needing (but usually unable) to regain speed in very short distances before the next set of obstacles arise.
you might have good flowmotion, hits some roots, slow up to manage that, then go into a tight turn with no speed. or climb over roots, just to hit rock gardens and be moving too slow to stay upright.
if you are a strong technically advanced rider you could ride 99% of this. i could not. the numerous halts took the fun out of it.
there are several long climbs that will challenge.
100% shade.
100 % sandy loam and dirt. probably a muddy quagmire after a rain.
excellent map at website above or at campground host at juniper point CG.
trail well marked.

Ridden Trail: Every few months

Summary: TRAIL SPECS: This is some the most extreme mountain biking I have been on in Texas. It is very rough, fast, technical, you name it. This trial is definitely not for the faint of heart or beginners. There are big uphills and downhills that are very technical. Some parts are so hard you will have to walk your bike. There aren't too many of those so the trail is still fun. If you want to really challenge yourself or if you think you are really good go check this place out. It may bring you back down to earth again. RIDING DISTANCE: 15 miles SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate to Expert
Other recommended trails in the same area: Johnson Branch, St. Jo/Bar H

Summary: THIS TRAIL HAS SOME OF THE STEEPEST, AND MOST TECHNICAL TERRAIN IN NORTH TEXAS. IT ALSO HAS SOME OF THE MOST GRUELING CLIMBS IN NORHT TEXAS, FOLLOWED BY SOME VERY STEEP AND TECHNICAL DECENTS. THIS IS DEFINATELY NOT A GOOD TRAIL FOR BEGINNERS OR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A LEISURELY, ROLLING STROLL THROUGH THE WOODS. IT IS ALSO NOT A GOOD IDEA FOR ANYONE WITH A CHEAP FRONT SHOCK, OR A DEPARTMENT STORE BIKE. THE DECENTS AREN'T THE KIND THAT ALLOW YOU TO PICK UP A LOT OF SPEED BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO TAKE THEM IN A VERY CONTROLLED FASHION, DUE TO THEIR GRADE AND THE FACT THAT THEY SWITCH BACK AND FORTH FREQUENTLY. TO NAVIGATE THEM SUCCESSFULLY YOU HAVE TO MASTER THE ART OF NOT TRYING TO RIDE YOUR BRAKES DOWN, NO MATTER HOW TEMPTING IT IS. THIS TRAIL WILL SEND YOU OVER THE HANDLEBARS ONTO YOUR FACE IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL AND IN CONTROL.
Recommended Route: START AT THE PAW PAW CAMPGROUND. THE BEST TRAIL ENTRY IS ABOUT A QUARTER OF A MILE DOWN THE ROAD FROM THE CAMP GROUND. THIS IS A TOUGH, CHALLENGING TRAIL. IT IS HOWEVER VERY REWARDING, ONCE YOUR SKILLS ARE UP TO IT. UNLESS YOU'RE IN AWESOME SHAPE, WITH TOP DRAWER SKILLS. BE PREPARED TO CARRY YOUR BIKE UP SEVERAL OF THE CLIMBS, BECAUSE THEY WILL KICK YOUR ASS IF YOU'RE NOT AN AWESOME ATHLETE.
Other recommended trails in the same area: CEDAR HILLS HAS A BETTER "FUN FACTOR," BUT IT IS NOWHERE NEAR AS DIFFICULT.

Summary: The above reviewer needs to ride Juniper more often. I can clean 99% of the trail and am certainly not a trials expert. This is a trail for real riders who are unafraid of challenging themsevles on some hectic terrain. Keep at it and you will become a technical superstar.
Recommended Route: Start at Juniper point, out to the "lost loop" do it counter clockwise, out to paw paw creek, turn around and be sure to do the lost loop in reverse on the way out.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Unfortunatly this is Texas.
