First half is pretty rocky, along fencelines, and plenty
of short steep climbs and descents. Last half is tight
and wooded with a couple of steep, but short sections. The trail comes out on the park road a couple of times, so go right and keep an eye out for
trail entrances.
Summary: Road Cleburne for the first time last week, outter loop only. The front section is by know means easy, at least 6 rocky technical up-hills followed by down hills in a row. If you can make all these your first ride, wow. Alot of fun. The last half of the trail is mainly singletrack down in the bottom with tree cover, very peaceful, with a couple of hairly drops. The trail is not very long maybe 5 miles, but its very different to anything I've tried in DFW. If your looking for cross country this trail might not be for you. Also, only saw one hiker and one MT biker on visit. I will go back.

Summary: I rode at Cleburne State Park a couple weeks ago. I didn't really know what to expect, but once I spoke with the gate guard I knew this was going to be a fun trail. She told me to be careful on a few of the downhills because some dude ripped his jaw open going down one a week back. Now that I've ridden it once I can see how this could have happened. Decents vary from bunny slopes to double black diamonds. And I didn't attempt a couple of them, yeah they're pretty narly. There's lots of limestone...small, medium, and large...many are loose. All the rocks make this trail very technically challenging, so you have to pay attention. Some challenging climbs that give you a great workout, but nothing that I would consider an absolute lung buster. Overall the best trail I have ridden in TX since moving back here in May. I've also ridden Breaks Bar H and Cedar Hill State Park. I like them too, but Cleburne is just more challenging and fun.
Recommended Route: I only rode the outter loop. I'm out of shape so one loop was enough to kick my butt. This is not a beginner trail, at least not the outter loop.

Summary: I have been riding for over ten years and I think I am a good judge of trail difficulty and not one to overrate. But, I must say, I think this is one of the most technical trails in Texas. This is as exciting as they come. This trail has some of the best white knuckle downhills that will get your adrenaline pumping and some of the best climbs to get your legs burning. This trail is not for beginners. Also, do not come out to this trail if you have a department store bike. It will be trashed and so will you. I recommend a decent full suspension or high-end hard tail.
This trail has a 7-mile outer loop and a 4-mile inner loop that overlap for about 1.5 miles. The first 2.5 miles of the inner loop are very twisty and tight in dense trees. This is an area a beginner could probably be able to ride. Beware though, because the last 1.25 miles of the 4-mile inner loop overlap the outer loop at the most extreme downhills in the park (the “No Fear Zone”).
The outer loop is a series of quick climbs and descents over loose limestone that can be steep and ledgey. It is easy to get up to 25 mph plus on these hills, so beware of skidding from the broken limestone.
After about 4.5 miles the trail levels out for a mile or so and transitions from rocky limestone to packed earth. Soon after this you will hit the No Fear Zone. These are two extremely steep hills that should be approached with caution. If you have the nerve to take them on, you are guaranteed quite a rush. However, if you do not feel comfortable doing these hills--don’t. Trying to ride these hills with hesitation or while riding your brakes will get you clobbered. You have to be confident to ride these types of hills because it is all or nothing. One quick tap of the brakes at the wrong time and you are going over the handlebars. Also, after periods of no rain, the ground is loose at the bottom of these hills, so again watch out for skidding.
If you are seeking expert level trails you will love Cleburne SP. You will challenge yourself unlike any trails in North Texas. If you are not confident in your skills, I would recommend mastering some other moderate to advance level trails before trying this one. If Dinosaur Valley, Northshore, Tyler, or Bar H give you trouble you probably will have a very difficult time here.
Recommended Route: All of it
If I can get on my soapbox, I have heard talk about "outlaw" trails that have been cut out here without park approval. Please do not ride these trails or any bandit trails of any kind at any park. There is plenty to ride out here without these trails. Riding and cutting un-approved trails does not promote our sport. I know of a fantastic trail in Austin where this type of activity contributed to the entire park being shut down to mountain bikers. So by riding these types of trails you run the risk of us loosing our privileges to great trails like this.
Enough of my sermon. Have a good time on the designated trails and try to be careful.
