White Rock Lake Loop

Mainly paved, but good for all types. Greatest in the evening.
Summary: 13 Apr 08, Like others said this is a beginners route, flat and paved. Very nice to bring your family out on the weekends, ride, people watch, and then picnic by your car in the grass or on one of the pavillions. Many riders so remember the rules and be corteous. If you want to work out stay on the roads... good 15-20mph rides can be achieved. Its a bit chilly and windy most of the time due to the water.
If you break down people will stop and help. I road biker gave me his Co2 once when I had a flat. And also remember that richardsons bike mart is on E. Grand/Garland if you come out of the area where there is an nursing home, on the north eastern part of the lake...
Recommended Route: There is a small trail type area by the dam and the water plant. There are some benches in there once you go in. Not much to speak for since its small and flat. Just keep out when wet cause it floods. Watch out for broken glass and bottles. I usually take some short cuts to the paved areas and ride on the grass but you cannot go into wooded areas unless they are paved, because there are no bridges for the creeks.
If you want some diversity break off into one of the nice neighborhoods and come back into the park. There are some really gorgeous houses close to the park. Enjoy!
Other recommended trails in the same area: The trail that goes north at North West Highway (northern part of the lake). Ride this flat, empty route all the way to I-635 and back. It will take you under I-75 and under Royal and Forest Lanes.

Summary: This is not a mountain bike trail. It is a paved sidewalk around White Rock Lake smack in the middle of East Dallas. Put on your street wheels, and don't be surprised if some idiot roadie tries to push you off the path. If it's a pretty weekend, expect lots of traffic. In time, this trail will join up with the trail from downtown to the park cities (the rail trail).
Recommended Route: Anywhere you can park is okay. I usually take the counter-clockwise route because there is a very long hill near Mockingbird.
Other recommended trails in the same area: For mountain biking, there are many trails available. WRL is great for cordio and girl-watching.

Summary: This track is perfect for what it is. It is a paved path that is 20+ miles long. It is great for road work/cardio. You need to go here if you are trying to get your legs and lungs back. The only draw back is it gets crowed on the weekends, so go during the week.
Recommended Route: Start at the soccer fields on the north east side of Hillcrest and 635. Approx. 7 miles out to the lake 9 miles around and 7 miles back.
Other recommended trails in the same area: None for roadwork.

Summary: this is really not a mtb type of trail, mostly paved for joggers, walkers, horses and lots of people bbqs. sat/sun afternoon is the best time to take this ride. All sorts of friendly people out enjoying the park. If you want a flat trail that you can just zen out on and work on ur tan , this is it.No need to bring water, there are drinking faucets ever 1/2 mile its seems, and they have water bowls for pets, and a dog park. which is fun to take a break at and watch. The paved trails on the weekends are really crowded, so i suggest taking the roads around the lake. lots of cyclists on the roads also. There is a small area to ride backwoods, its behind the damn. Go to the damn by the pump house and ride the low track, not across the damn, and then you can turn into the trails, not much there, but fun to play around on. there is one trail that will take you to a small bridge across the creek. Be careful, cause last time i was there i accidently hit a bees nest and got stung 14 times! nothing a 12 pack couldnt fix. after being stung and retrieving my bike i noticed that the area had been sprayed with red paint and a bunch of empty raid was around, so im guessing that the nest is a well known thing and wil be there next season,,, but all in all the ride is mostly for people watching and cardio workout.
Recommended Route: any
Other recommended trails in the same area: dowtown dallas thurs nights,, its a blast, wear a brain bucket cause its a 200 dollar fine if u dont have one, and do not ride in the dart station, the cops dont like that!
