Horseshoe Trail

This trail is like a Chinese Buffet, so many choices - so little time. Also a great trail to do at night. The trail across the lake gets so congested, and this is the perfect trail to hit to releave the stress after a long day at the office. A little on the technical side in some spots, a great place to go for the intermediate rider.

Trail Directions
Head west on 26 (Northwest HWY) from HWY 121. Dove Loop is the one between Main St. and Park Blvd. Take a left (north) on Dove. One mile up you will see a Diamond Shamrock and that street is Dove Loop. This is the tricky part, you can go two ways. You can take a left going west on Dove Loop. After you pass the elementary school there will be a parking lot on the right where there is a little wooded area, this is one place where the trail head starts . Or you could have gone straight. Seeing a Park entrance sign, take a left (west) and the trail head is at the end of the road (if you get to the baseball diamonds, you have gone too far) .

Summary:
this is an awesome cross country trail that you can actually pick up at rt. 377 just north of roanoke and ride 5 miles cross country until you hit the main parking area near the new texan gaylord hotel and resort. the variety on this trail is amazing. i've moved and have not ridden there for years, but i still long for it. i like to use a hardtail to get up some pretty steep stuff. you need to be in good shape and bring along plenty of water. the searing heat makes it harder... lots of cactus too so bring a good pair of tweezers, just in case! i've encountered longhorns and cottonmouths so be alert. i've also seen some road runners...

Recommended Route:
park at rt. 377 just north of roanoke and ride all the way to the end at the grapevine lake picnic areas.

Summary:
This is a good little park to rode when you need to get away from northshore and it's millions of riders(If you live close by). The trail has about a thousand forks in it letting you create an awesome loop, or just keep riding without a stop. The terrain is mostly easy with a few slight up hills with roots that are really hard to keep speed over. Occasionally you will a really big dip (you know, where there is a big drop and then a monster uphill:) What makes this a 3-rating is that it is conveniant being right next to my house. Otherwise, because of it's limited trails, I'd give it a 2-rating.

Recommended Route:
Doesn't matter, you would still end up at the same place anyway.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
If you are more that 5-10 minutes away, don't waste your time here, go to northshore. Also, Knob Hills SUCKS. If you live within a 10 minute or less(and thats pudhing it) Ride the first 2 miles or son until it gets out of the woods. The other 4 miles is like riding on a cement side walk.

Summary:
This trail is fun because it runs you along the lake. The scenery is pretty nice. Other than that, it is about as challenging as making microwave popcorn.

Summary:
This is a lot of fun. Easy, but challenging at the same time, and you don't have to be a superman to do most of them.

Recommended Route:
Bunny Hill and The Stairs....those aren't the real names but you'll probably know what I mean

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Northshore is quite a bit harder but still a good ride.

Summary:
I first rode this trail about 2 weeks ago and since have been back at least once a week. There are alot of joggers and walkers that tend to pop up out of now where on some of the blind curves, so watch out. Overall, it is a fun trail and has many different difficulty levels to offer a wide variety of riders, plus it is close to home.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
North Shore - Grapevine
