Rocky Hill Ranch

This place has trails for all levels, easier doubletracks that traverse the length of the ranch and tough, twisting singletracks that wind through the pine forest over dry creek beds. Makes for a nice day of riding, whatever your skill level.
Summary: I really like this place, it has a good variety of terrain and trail types: Long rocky downhills, easy double tracks, curvey flat single tracks through the woods, and best of all various hard pack and pine needle downhill runs. Don't short change yourself, go all the way to the back of the park - Avenue of the pines, and some of the fence line runs are wide open, long downhills for big speed with rolling terrains for a mini-coaster like ride. I will definitely go back soon. Our favorite hair-raiser run was the last mile on the way back from Station 1: HB to SSS to ME to GH, back to parking lot. Its the designated 'Easy Route', maybe that's going up - but go balls out down it for a thrill, but be careful, many hidden mini-drops (scarey but fun) and you can get going real fast.

Summary: Just spent Saturday and Sunday riding the trails (March 1 and 2) Awesome trails in a great environment. As the other posts state, there are many different types of trails. First 1/2 mile after the meadow might be intimidating if you go the edge of the property as it is rocky climbs. Don't let this be frustrating as once that is behind you, there are great trails for every skill level. Definitely recommend a bike with suspension but you can do fine after the first section as stated above. Water stations are very helpful. The map provided at the trail head sucks so don't get bogged down in your bearings. Just ride with a general sense of direction. We got decent cell phone service from the parking lot.
We did trails on Saturday, spent the night at Buescher State Park and rode again on Sunday and probably didn't cover all the trails. Once the saloon part gets open, this will definitely be THE weekend spot for area enthusiasts.

Summary: At first I didn't like these trails. The stuff in the beginning is not well marked, and it took me awhile to get going. Some of the trails were marked off for a run that was taking place the next day. Eventually I got onto the big (16 mile) loop, and some of these trails are great. Favorite trails included: Off the lip, Longhorn Loop, Tris Cross, Black Trac, and The Wall. These trails are a mostly sand surface which was luckily pretty packed down when I rode it. If the corners had been looser it could have made for a long day. Also, the trails are called "Rocky" hill, but don't go expecting Barton Creek type rocks. The rocks are small, loose rocks that suck your energy on climbs. Oh yeah, the climbs. There's alot more climbing here than I expected. From the road and where you park it doesn't look like there would be much, but that's very deceptive. There's even some fairly long, grind it out type of climbs. Overall a well designed trail network that is worth the drive and the price($8 for the day).
Recommended Route: Get on the 16 mile loop and go!
Other recommended trails in the same area: Heard Bluff Creek is good. I'll be heading there next.

Summary: lots of the same. nothing is very steep or technical or hard. nice turns with increasing and decreasing radii keeps you on your toes. Some of the best pine forest in central texas.
Recommended Route: ride your fixed gear ss backwards on the entire big loop.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Fly to Grand Junction. Hop onto the Kokopeli Trail in Fruita heading west and don't stop until you go past Moab and finally to the Pacific Ocean.

Summary: Aside from being a great mountain bike trail destination, this is moutain bike heaven. You pull off the road of civilization and into home of mountain bike zone. I've been to national forests, gated parks and private lands and this spot is among a top 10 with the creature features it has. As for the trails, there is enough of a mix that will entertain everyone from expert to novice. I like to ride a good bit of distance each ride (10+ miles) minimum and get in a good technical ride too. This place has all the options. First I went around the park on the forest roads, then cut into the single track. When I was heading back to the parking area I jumped on 2 separate WELL MARKED trails that were both fun and difficult. All in all this place rocks. There are 4 water spots with cold coolers full of water, there is plenty of tree cover, there were long climbs, long decents, a few technical sections and to top it all off - you're in a park where you're bound to see a dozen or so other riders. Once finished I showered, went to the salon that is also on site, had a great cheeseburger and interesting conversations with the bartender. This place is well worth the 8.00 to get in. There is a very small but necessary bike shop with tubes, lubes and tools, there is water, showers, electric, a salon with food, drinks and music. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming... Keep it up guys, you rock..
Recommended Route: The outer perimeter was good to loosen up, then zig zag the inner trails for technical sections, tight turns, quick dips and short climbs..
