Cross dam/bridge and go up long uphill - there is access to another trail (Forrest Ridge?) that is closed for now - but keep going on the same trail to very nice downhill. Unfortunately, this leads into overgrown hiking trails that will have you hiking, biking, and carying your bike up a few hills. If you want a little adventure and don't mind a little hiking - great place to go - you'll find some fun spots within the hiking trails. I put intermediate because it will get you fairly tired in a short time - also some technical stuff on first downhill.
183 to 360 west, go north on spicewood springs for about 3-5 miles. Small parking area on left - no sign visible from street, but shortly after "2 bulls" sign on left. Pretty drive if you've never taken it.
Summary: compact, out of the way (there's a good chance you'll have the place all to yourself),some good climbing, some really exposed areas(as in several hundred feet drop to the creek below). seems to be not used much anymore as alot of the trails were grown in. the downhill at the top of the climb that hugs the fenceline is sick! I wouldn't go out of my way to ride here, but if you're looking for a decent continous dirt climb in the Austin area this one isn't half bad. The other trails are only OK at best. Nothing to challenging, technical,or interesting.
Recommended Route: cross the creek, climb the hill, descend halfway down the fenceline trail, turn to right and follow contour of hill until it brings you back to the hill, descend hill until first left turn. turn left and follow to bottom of hill...rinse,lather,repeat
Other recommended trails in the same area: City Park(Emma Long), some other unmentionable stuff

Summary: I give it four stars just because of the short crazy downhill along the fence at the back.
Recommended Route: Do the climb up the rocky road and then hit the downhill. Then go through the singletrack in the woods.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Ummm...try across the street.

Summary: Just got on this trail today. It was fun. I took a complete opposite route and did hike-a-bike all up the south side where its all limestone and impossible. But once I got to the top I was in for some serious technical stuff and rocky suicide bombs. Great stuff. Fell a few times pretty hard but I bet I wont fall there again. Go ride this trail. Hiking sucks but the decent is totally worth it!
Recommended Route: As described above. It works!
Other recommended trails in the same area: Walnut Creek (I'm new to austin)

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: Excellent training ground. Climb will help keep/get you in shape. Ledges are rideable and good for building experience/confidence. It is possible to hurt yourself on this trail (I have), but overall not likely to cause grave injury. The section in the forest is really tight single track with soft, sandy soil. Good for handling/balance training on forest trails. There is almost never more than one other rider riding St. Edwards. This makes it excellent for stopping and re-riding things that you need to work on. Front side (climb and descent) can be ridden in the rain or after a heavy rain without problems. My current favorite trail within the Austin city limits. For what it is it gets five stars.
Recommended Route: Park on side of road as described by others. Cross creek to east (on road), head east/south up the hill. Long climb with some ledges. At top turn right (west) along barbed-wire fence. Follow down several ledges and steeps, until it starts to flatten out and turn right (north). Follow until you reach a makeshift bench where there is a suicide drop ahead and an unrideable uphill beyond (check it out before you try to ride it). My preferred path is to turn right before that drop and head back through the woods. Steep sandy beginning, loose stuff in woods, a couple of downhills. Very pretty. This trail rejoins the climb in the middle. Head down. Once you get past large ledge, turn left. Follow around to two technical downhill sections (short). Follow around to trail beginning and start again. Roughly 3-4 mile loop.
Other recommended trails in the same area: I never rode Forest Ridge (which is posted closed to mountain bikes at the top of the St. Edwards trail), but I've walked it and it must have been one hell of a ride. Barton Creek Greenbelt is OK if you don't mind crowds (the Hill of Life is particularly good), City Park (if you don't mind dying).

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: I found this to be a super fun climb. While it is not very technical, it does keep coming at ya. I like to climb it and go down the other side and then reverse direction so I can climb the other way. If this trail were, oh, 5X as long I'd give it a 5. But I'll still go 4 as I think it a valuable little trail for conditioning rides (provided you do multiple loops).
Recommended Route: Do the "hard" climbing route. It will give you a taste of what real mtb-ing is about.:) Stop at the top and shed a tear for Forest Ridge.:(
Other recommended trails in the same area: Emma Long, Rocky Hill, Walnut Creek.
