McKinney Falls Home Stead Trail

Home Stead Trail is a 3 mile loop. Pretty twisty, tight, and fast. One climb in either direction. This is a fun little beginer trail. Great place for a night ride.

Summary:
It all depends on what one looks for in a trail.

If you are looking for a lunchtime nooner or a quickie, you will find this trail appealing.

If you are going to drive to a location and want to ride in an area and not stray too far from the car, you will find this trail appealing.

I highly recommend the "back" entrance - not to avoid paying the entrance fee (which is illegal and qualifies you for the loser of the year award) - because it allows you to park within a few hundred feet of the trail - no trouncing through the park, walking through water wondering if you have finally found the path.

Recommended Route:
There are two ways to ride this trail - clockwise or counter-clockwise. Of course it is still the same trail, but each way yields a different experience. That is why this is such a good practice trail. Taking the counter-clockwise route, the the technical portion of this trail is uphill. Consequently, the workout is much more anerobic. Taking the trail clockwise, the technical portion of this trail is down hill and consquently one can approach it with more speed. So, depending upon what you need or want to accomplish with your workout, ride accordingly.

Summary:
I went to this park to ride this trail over the summer. After getting over that volcanic rock and biking past some swimming holes, I made it to a campsite where the lady at the Park entrance said that trail began. I rode on a simple dirt path for a while and found a small hole in the woods so I jumped at it...big mistake. After feeling like I was in a jungle, I end up at some lake where people are fishing. Going back and not wanting to take the same route...I ride through the woods and have to hurl my bike over barbed wire to get back to where I hear the people swimming.

Recommended Route:
Look at the map VERY carefully before you start riding. I think there are two trails at this park and be sure you know where you are going

Summary:
This trail is a excellent for bringing your wives or girlfriends on a ride to build there confidence. It might be slighty challenging for them, but they should be able to ride it. Thus when finishing, they think they're the greatest rider in the world. It's good stuff to see this.

Summary:
This is a great trail. True it is a little on the beginner side, but it is really fun. I ride this trail to improve on my cardo workout. There's some climbing, not much, and some downhill, not much and lots of twisty singletrack. In one visit I do three laps around to make about a 10 mile ride. I, too time my laps, which are about 15 - 17 minutes. A great place to train and build on your skills.

Recommended Route:
I live near the park, so I ride into it. From William Cannon, park and ride in. Combine this with the accual trail and it's about a 12 mile round trip. The other way in is also a "back" entrance. Coming from Burleson Road turn on the street that goes to the State Park Headquarters. Park in the elementry school parking lot and ride to the trail head. The advantage of doing this is you don't have to cross the water near the falls. By the way, I have year round state park pass, so I'm not skipping out on paying!
