Bluff Creek Ranch
10 reviews
 4.1 of 5

The trail has lots of rolling single track weaving in and out of trees and through creeks for the first six miles or so. Beginner to intermediate. Next is Gas Pass, which is a wicked downhill. Another downhill is a stair-step (Pack Mule?) then there is a 120 ft. uphill suspension bridge (pretty cool), and a section called Roller Coaster, then back to the house. There are several bike-cattle guards you will need to be careful crossing. Camping is available, there is a small lake to swim in. $6.00 a day to ride.

Summary:
As the description states, this is a single track, one way trail that is laid out very nicely and impossible to get lost since you just need to keep the pink ribbons along the trail to your left. I would say this isn't a beginner's course with some really great ups and downs but an intermediate biker like myself could handle most of it, only having to walk short portions of it (crazy incline at one point).

Recommended Route:
I know it has some pass throughs to avoid the hay field (north part of trails) but all in all it is the same for everyone. All in all this trail was a blast to ride. The ownership was extremely friendly and the trail is well maintained. 100 miles from inner Houston, I believe the trip was well worth it.

Summary:
These trails are great riding for all. Wooded single track, soft sand, roots, rocky and the like. Camping also wonderful, great wooded sites, clean bath house. New trails on the backside add more tech riding.

Summary:
Rode here for the first time today.

Twisty fun singletrack through pines. Mostly sand surface. Not alot of rocks or technical stuff. The only real climbs or decents are in the bluffs area, but these are fun and include some nice trail features such as bridges. There's also a couple North Shore-ish type ramps and even some tabletop jumps near the end. Overall all a fun place to spend an afternoon and turn a few laps.

Recommended Route:
There's really only one. Keep the pink markers on your left and go. General direction is counterclockwise.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Rocky Hill Ranch

Summary:
This was my first trip to Bluff Creek Ranch and I loved it. I went on President's Day and had the place to myself until the afternoon when two other riders showed up.

I live on the west side of Houston and it only took me about 1 hour and 15 minutes to get there. The day rate is $8 and well worth it. Thecamping area looks terrific and I am already planning an overnight trip back there soon.

The owner is really a nice guy and was very helpful in explaining the route and the tough spots. The first several miles are (relatively) easy twists and turns with a few technical spots where tree roots can cause you problems if you approach too slowly. The cattle guards are actually fun to ride over.

Gas Pass (the first of two serious downhills) is not too difficult if you have good brakes and don't go charging into it. If you go in too fast, you'll never be able to slow down and will crash. The climb back up to the top of the bluff isn't all that difficult, but it is long enough that you will sure feel it by the time you reach the top. Then it's down Mule Trace. This is the section the owner recommeded I walk the first time. Only problem was I was so out of breathe from the previous climb I was too tired. So over I went. It is scary steep with drops and bumps in all the worst places with a nice sharp left turn near the bottom. There was a wrecked mountain bike up in the trees beside the trail (hopefully just a joke) but this is where the spectators come during races to watch people crash. Fortunately I made it down without incident. There are a couple miles of flat (to regain your strength and nerves) then an uphill over a suspension bridge, around some tight corners and side hill drop offs. Really nice stuff. Back at the top of the bluff again and then it weaves around and about, over a few table tops, around the beautiful swimming lake, through the barn (really) and you're back at the beginning. I did the loop 3 times. It took me over an hour per lap but I wasn't pushing hard (especially after the climbing). I just can't get over how nice this place is.

Recommended Route:
Follow the trail, pink ribbons on your left. There are by-passes for the scary and tough sections, so this place is friendly to any skill level.

Summary:
Just went out to Bluff Creek this past weekend for the first time with our group of 5 from Houston...had a blast! We were very impressed. The ranch is gorgeous, complete with horses, longhorn cattle, rolling hills, and lots of pines. The facilities were very nice. They have showers/bathrooms, first aid, and free purified water available. The trail was fun and winding, and best of all...quiet! We felt like the only riders out there. We had a great hamburger (one of his own cows!) cooked up by the owner, who was very nice, and then hit the trail again for more. A really great place, highly recomended!
