Cross Country Rider Summary: although not technically challenging, this is not for the weak or unprepared. the climb and lenght and isolation requires prepartion. until you reach el paso gap you will probably see one truck all day. once on top you will see a car or 2 an hour. there is a primitve NF campsite at Dog Canyon, about 16 mi. form Queen and Queen has a grocery store and cafe . water available at nearby ranger station.
the climb itself is a gradual grade easy to ascend for any fit rider. once on top grades vary but never over 4% on any long stretch.
off of NM CR 540 are many jeep roads that will take you in further to canyons and caves.
