A-town Rock Island Trail
2 reviews
 3 of 5

Some riders have a prejudice toward man-made stunts and the deranged obstacle course that is the Rock Island trail, but if you don't like it, it's likely that you just can't handle it. It starts downtown and heads to the medical center and if you aren't sure of your skill level, you should start at the end with the hospitals. You've been warned. Don't be fooled by the lenght of the trail. Expect to see a lot of walking along this trail. Numerous bail-out options for the too weak to do the whole trail. Don't be put off by the locals only attitiude at the area shops and Amarillo riders who want this rad gem all to themselves. When you are ready to huck your meat into the sick, it's worth it to find this trail and bring some big huevos.

Summary:
This is a paved Rail Trail.

Totally flat and you'll spend more time dodging kids on skateboards and housewives pushing strollers than you will anything else.

Recommended Route:
Doesn't matter. Start at either end. Parking seems safer on the west side.

Summary:
The route is easy to find, just look for the rock island sign on Coulter north just pasy I-40. Arrived late so I didn't get to do all of the trail. Easy to find your way. Trail runs thru town so there are stores to stop at to recharge on the way.

Recommended Route:
Rode from west to east

I've heard that there are some good trails very near here at Medi-park, but on the other side of 9th. Haven't had the time to check the out because my bowling league quilified for regionals and I've had to bowl a lot.
