Encino Trail- Big Bend State Ranch
1 reviews
 4 of 5

Encino Trail is one of several designated MB trails in Big Bend State Ranch. 8-1/2 mile loop of single track and unmaintained jeep trail.

There are also 100 mi+ of 4 WD roads and park roads that are open to motorized sue.

Encino Trail is a leisurely ride thru Chihuauhaun Desert and abandoned ranches. I rate it intermediate because of length and hostility of environment should you screw up.

Stop at Fort Leaton on FM 170 for info and registration. You can also register at Ranch Headquarter 40 Mi. from T/O on FM 170. Ranch Headquarters has maps , books, accomadations, camping, water, coke machine and supermarket quality MB rentals. bring food, its 1-1/2 hours back to Presidio.

Summary:
single track and unmaintained jeep roads that loop 8 1/2miles thru coarse gravel and sand and rock. The trail is 100% ridable with NO dismounts due to sand. Coarse S&G sections remains firm and ridable.
elevation loss/gain no more than 200' over entire trail.

Headquarter has maps and limited supplies, including MB rentals. No beer for sale. There are other MB designated trails. The Ranch roads and 4 WD roads gives you lots of options.

Check and see if they are cooking dinner. Great campfire meals. I had 12 lbs of Fajitas and fixins and dutch oven cobbler for $10.

i rate it intermediate just because of its length and the isolation of trail location.
but I give it a 5 for locale.

You are at the ass end of nowhere....2 miles from BFE.

see big bend state ranch website.

Careful with the herb, ICE is everywhere along Tex/Mex border.
